Houseguest!!! I am puppy sitting a Boston Terrier girl named Daisy from last night until next wednesday night. We are already off to a wonderful start... NOT! HAHA Shes sweet to humans, not so much to my boys, she is TERRORIZING my little guy (Dexter) so much. He is turning and snapping at her when he has to, he is not really dog friendly at all, actually sometimes he's dog aggressive, but all dogs seem to want him, probably because he wants nothing to do with them. Even Fletcher who loves other dogs is afraid of her. She lunges at them, its to play but she is 20+ lbs and they are 9lbs and 5.5lbs... so she is scary coming straight at them. Made it through last night good, she slept in her crate quietly and all night long no problem! Then I took her out to walk this morning with Fletcher and she didn't poop until we were almost back in the house, she didn't pee at all I guess, because she came into my bathroom and peed on the floor. I said "Daisy, did you pee in the house?" and she rolled over on my feet on her back so she knew she did wrong. I fed her before I left her 1/2 cup of food and then put her, her blankie and her water bowl in her crate (was that ok?) for the day while Im at work. I put my boys gated into the kitchen like normal and I left it so the 3 could see each other but not get near each other. I left the radio on like normal too so I hope this works! Pray for me!! haha 3 small dogs in a little house for a week! One chases one that chases the other one... all night long! |
Oh Ow I hope it goes better for you tonight. Mine would be the same way in that situation |
It seems to me that there isn't anything else you can do but what you have done already. You can't leave them together, that's for sure. Hope it all works out for you. :) |
From what I've seen, Boston Terriers are VERY determined players. Thor is also very uncomfortable around other dogs and he has gotten into it with a couple BTs who would not leave him alone. |
Haha...my parents actually have a boston terrier and my Teddy loves him! Good luck! Surely all the trouble will stop! |
I would definitely keep her in the crate separated from my dogs when I'm not at home. Depending on how bad it gets I would even consider keeping her crated while I was at home as well. Good Luck, hopefully things will get better once they get use to each other, they may surprise you. |
Sounds like your doing everything right. I found that taking the houseguest on a walk with Joey helps them bond, as Cesar says, "they begin to feel part of the pack". I'm a firm believer in making them sit before food is given, and not allowing them to eat until the release command is given, as I believe this eliminates food aggression. Have fun, and this new experience is probably very good for all of them. I hope you keep us posted on how long it takes before they really seem to get along, for Joey it was about 24 hours, but they were together most of that time, except for sleeping. |
Hey everyone thanks for the encouragement and advise! I am on day 3 with our houseguest and things are going nicely. My Fletcher is doing pretty well with her as long as she does not lunge at his face. They are not best of friends yet or anything. Dexter has spent 3 days in my arms or lap! haha poor baby is just terrified of her, I feel sooo bad! But he's probably happy having my arms to lay in or my lap open for him to lay on! I do not leave them alone without crating her and I do not feed them at the same time. BFs kids LOVE her, she is bigger and stronger and can play rougher with 2 teenage boys than my boys can so they are having a blast with her, shes tired by end of the night thats for sure! Overall she is a really good girl. All would be good if Dexter was not so afraid! Oh yeah, they all go outside at the same time and are fine with that, and they all get treats at the same time, at night she sleeps in her crate in the kids room at night while my boys still sleep with me and bf. |
