Weather Conditions I am concerned about what is the safest temperture to take our Yorkies outside in the heat? Where I live, we have already been in the triple digits. I know not to take Suzi Outdoors in these extreme temps. Today, it is overcast . It is, in the 90's today. Suzi was out on the balcony for a couple of min. with me and she was panting just within a brief time .I had her going inside quickly. What is the max. temp? How about indoors? I keep the inside at 72 -78 degrees. We don't like it Hot. I am so worried about heat stroke outside for these little dogs . Suzi has so much energy and loves to be outdoors, but, isn't too dangerous? Or am I leaning on the too cautious side? thanks! |
Your temps get alot warmer than here so I may not be the best one to answer. I take mine for short walks in 90's degree weather about every day. We walk to meet my Daughter and walk home from school. They are also out in our front yard but not for long periods of time. We tend to hang out in the backyard where we have a big walnut tree for shade. Now if I want to take them on a long walk we go in the evening or morning |
I live in SC, the temps in the summer get to the triple digits, and we have 2 outside dogs, they always have clean/fresh water and a big shade tree. As long as they have those 2 things, they should be good for however long, they just need to be able to get out of the sun |
We don't really walk the dogs outside if it's over 85 degrees and sunny - they just get too hot. We do let them out all summer long in the backyard to go potty, but that's only for a few minutes. I worry about their paws getting burned once it gets to triple digits here too. |
It's not just the heat... My vet's website recommends avoiding long walks when the temp is above 80 degrees and/or humidity is above 30%. Most important if you do go out (lots of dogs do) is probably to ensure doggy stays hydrated, ground does not burn paw pads, and avoid sunburn. |
Yep, that is what we are facing today> humid temps. thank you all so much for the advice! I will not have Suzi out past 80 degrees! She seems to be uncomfortable. Luckily, she's fully peed pad trained  |
