I like it that she gives you 10 days for viral infections however I think you need more than 6 months on congenital. Most breeders that have guarantees offer at least 1 yr. |
It doesn't look good to me. The viral aspect is nice but it looks like they don't cover againt LP, LS, LCP, MVD, etc. for more than 6 months. That's not long enough for some genetic diseases in my opinion. It also says that all vaccines should be given. What vaccines? Lepto? Corona? |
Then what? The best protection is to buy from a reputable breeder, and do your homework on the breeder and his/her dogs and their detailed health records. Meet the parents and grandparents and siblings of the pup. Check the pedigree back 5 or 6 generations for inbreeding. Talk to lots of others who have purchased from the breeder. A health guarantee gives you peace of mind, until you need to use it. I guess a guarantee is better than no guarantee, all else being equal, but a guarantee really doesn't mean much. Like others said, there are so many congenital health issues that could develop later in life. Best bet is to do your homework on the breeder, don't rely on a guarantee. |
I also think 6 months is a little short... |
That "guarantee" protects the breeder, not the buyer. The breeder doesnt have any responsiblities except for replacing the puppy. The guarantee is too short. Some congental health problems dont show up until a year old or more. |
I have spoken with the breeder and she is going to give me a year now, rather then 6 months..so that makes me feel better..thanks for letting me know. I hope nothing happens to Dante, that would break my heart. |

The key is to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder, not rely on a health guarantee. Does this breeder have all her dogs tested before breeding? By health tested, I don't mean a routine physical done by her vet. I mean bile acids tests, CERF for eyes, knees and hips screened for luxating patellas and Legg-Perthes, thyroid panels, etc. Did you know that Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt shunt than all other breeds combined? Ask this breeder if all her Yorkies have had bile acids tests and ask to see the results. If they haven't, I would not consider buying a puppy from her. Just look in the Health and Sick sections here on YT to see all the members who are dealing with genetic conditions like liver shunts and luxating patellas. Both cost thousands of dollars to diagnose and surgically repair. Getting your puppy from a reputable breeder will save you lots of money and heartache in the future. |

She only has two Yorkies..the mom and Dad. I am so stressed out, lol! |

It sounds like she may be a backyard breeder who is just putting two Yorkies with unknown backgrounds together. Where did her Yorkies come from? |
