Not agility material! One of our local parks had a "Dog Day" afternoon and had an agility course set up for anyone that wanted to go in and try it out. I had both of my little ones with me so I thought I'd give it a shot. Adie, who is the more athletic of the two caught on quickly. She would run up to the bar full speed then stop and kind of hop over it. Without fail. This drew a crowd of people with big dogs and all of them thought it was the funniest thing they ever saw! Until I tried Skeeter the porky yorkie. He was alright with the running but couldn't seem to understand that he was to go OVER the bar. He tried running around it and under it but not once would he try to jump it. Even with me jumping over it first and even with it no more than 2 inches off the ground! Next we tried that in and out weaving thing. Again Adie excelled. she quickly figured out that it was easier to run beside the upright poles than in and out of them. Skeeter on the other hand managed to get his leash wrapped around not one but two of the poles at the same time! So the only thing left was the long tube they are supposed to run through. I enlisted my dh to help me with that one. He held Adie at one end while I called to her at the other. Have you ever seen a dog look into one of those things and start screaming at the top of his or her lungs? She was very upset that she could hear Mommy but not see her and she wasn't about to rescue her from the big open mouthed thing! Skeeter, again on the other hand, trotted right in but didn't come out. He decided that it was a great place to take a nap! So with my head lowered and my own sad tail tucked between my legs I left the agility course with my two darling dogs. Both seemed very pleased with themselves. |
Hey, you gave it the ole college try! Way to go! I think my Mayzie would do great in agility but I have no idea how, where or what to do to get started. Let's just suffice it to say that Mozes is just not the sharpest tool in the shed if you know what I mean. He is as cute as they come but.....that's about all he has going for him. lol |
Looks like everyone did their best, but, hey it was their first time. Champions aren't made in a day Lou. They just need more time.:p I bet that was so cute to watch. |

LOL, I think I need a translator! When you say queued up is that the same thing as signing up here? Like you put your name on a list or get in line? And what does being gutted mean? LOL. This is so fun hearing expressions from another country! |

They are nothing if not entertaining! LOL DH and I agree that Adie is little Miss Adie-tude and Skeeter is just plain lazy. |

We thought Adie would be great too but she was acting so prissy when she got to the bars...you know like her s*** doesn't stink and she is just oh so above it all!:p |
Ha ha! What a cute story. :) Thor is definitely a dumb blonde. I wouldn't dream of trying him on an agility course. At least your dogs are happy with their performance, that's what really matters. :D |
Would love to see a video of your next agility attemp! |

God forbid! I have this horrible image in my mind of a video taken from behind with MY big behind hiding the action! LOL I have to admit that it was really cute though. |
:mademyday i think with more practice they will do fine..i want to try it too but i think my little lazy ass would juz lay and sleep on me :p |
I do think the little ones are cutest... I took a class with Dax last year and although I'm not sure he would win any prizes he sure fooled the teacher. He is quite athletic for a little guy but I'm sure he didn't look like much next to the huge auzzies‚ labs‚ and dobies. The teacher started with the tunnel which he was going through before I asked him to.. The tippy thiing was no problem...But the funnny thing was when she said let the big dogs go over the jump first then she would lower it for Dax...I just patted my chest and told Dax up and he jumped as high as my waist and into my arms....You should have seen the look onn her face...She said she had definitely underestimated Dax. At the end he wasn't the best in class but she said he was the fastest learner. Little guys can jump too...Lol. |
