Tiny Bugs! Help! I am clueless. Bailey is my first dog so I have no experience. I've had her about 7 weeks and pretty much ever since I brought her home I have noticed these tiny little bugs around the house. I see them mostly where the dog has been, but also on entrance points like the sliding door and coming up the sink drains. I have never actually seen them on Bailey or right next to her as if coming off her. They are tiny, like half the size of an ant, and kind of light brown or gray in color. They're more long and skinny than round. They can also hop. They're not fleas. Bailey has never had any flea dirt on her and doesn't itch enough for that. But I am clueless about what they are. I usually just see one or two or a few at most. The most I have seen all together is when I used a washcloth to clean Bailey's bottom the other day, and then soaked it in the sink. After the water drained out there were dozens of the bugs on the washcloth, like they are attracted to the smell of her poop or something? Anyone have any ideas? |
Hum, can you get a picture? |

Maybe get her a flea dip anyway just to be safe. |
Gosh, what you're describing really sound like fleas to me-- have you tried smooshing any of them to see if they leave behind a bloody streak? Fleas that have been feeding will do that. The only other things I could think of are "no seeums", or sand fleas. I'm not sure if you have those where you live... |
If they look like a similar to fleas but you say they arent you might google lice and look at the pictures of them. |
Sorry, but sounds like they are probably :(fleas~ Is she on a preventative? |
sounds like termites. My daughter just had an infestation and the service said they swarm like this around this time of year. They're a specific kind of termite. |
Sounds like Drain Flies.. google them and see if that is them they are usually around your kitchen drain.:eek: |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 277201This is what a drain fly looks like?? Similar?? |
sorry I dont know how to attach the image, but I think its fruit flies or drain flies |
I don't know what they look like, but I was just reading that there has been an outbreak of Bed Bugs, the worst since WWII. Here is a link with picture It says they look like tan specks of rice initially. Not sure if this is the problem, it sounds like fleas to me, but thought I would throw the idea out there since I just saw the article. |
I am clueless! I've looked at pictures of fleas, bed bugs, drain flies, fruit flies, lice, basically everything mentioned. These look smaller and lighter in color. I've squashed them and they don't seem to leave any color. I've never found the bugs on me, or even Bailey for that matter. I just link them to Bailey because they've been around since I got her and they seem to be in the areas where she is. I've never given her anything for fleas, but wouldn't she be really itchy and have flea dirt on her if she had fleas? Also, I have pest control. The guy comes quarterly to spray outside and also sprays in the walls. The last time he was here was about a month ago, so these tiny little bugs seem like that stuff doesn't affect them.   |

Fleas don't hang out in sinks. Sounds like drain flies to me too. You have to kill the bacteria in the drain pipe where they breed. Try pouring anything acidy in the drain. Vinegar will work. Just schloss it around and don't use the sink for awhile. Hope this helps. |
