Anyone Have a Photo of an Adult Porkie?
 
I have been reading and researching yorkies for quite some time now. I want to be sure when I do get one that I am prepared.
What do you ladies know about Porkies? I know it is a cross breed between yorkies and pomerians. What else can you tell me? Any genetic problems? What questions should I ask the breeder? Anyone have a photo of an adult?
Thanks so much for any information you can provide!

Thanks for the website. The markings look similar to a yorkie, but with a pom's coat texture. Is that correct?
Could anyone tell me the pros and cons of a porkie?

I don't have anything against mixed dogs but something to keep in mind is that they all look very different from one another. I was thinking about getting a pom and shih tzu mix but upon doing some research learned that I didn't like the way most looked as adults. Some were very cute but most that I saw were not. Anyway, my point is that with mixes it's really a gambel as to what they will look like as adults.

They do all look very different -- but they are all adorable. I know I may sound terribly ignorant asking this, but is there really no way to know the coloring or type of hair as an adult?

My neighbor just got a Puggle... Pug / Beagle mix.... ( which I really can understand) But, I looked them up on a website, just curious what an adult might look like..... :eek: .... Not cute.... and they all looked completely different,,some were BIG some not,, some looked more beagle,,, the ones that looked more like a pug were kinda cute...but be aware, You will have NO idea what you will end up with. (If ya want a certain look to your dog, that is almost impossible to predict)

I know if I wanted to buy a yorkie, I would buy a yorkie. If I wanted a mix breed
(which is fine too) I would go to my Animal Protective League and get a mixed for
about $500 less than what they are asking with probably alot more info. They
are calling this sort of breeding "Designer Dogs" What do they take the public
for a bunch of idiots. Sorry, but I get alittle upset with this sort of thing.

I TOTALLY agree. Almost 90% of the dogs in animal shelters are mixed. You could get one for free. And calling them designer dogs and charging obsene amounts of money for them is insulting peoples intelligence.

I am so upset about these "Designer Dogs". These dogs are MUTTS. If you want a mutt, go to the pound and rescue one. I can't believe that people are paying 500, 600 or even 1500 for a MUTT!!!

I have nothing against mixed breeds. I have two, but it completely bewilders me that people are willing to pay SO much for a mixed breed. My neighbor paid 450/ea for her two yorki-poo's. :confused:

In the end, no matter what you call them, the bottom line is that they are mutts and you are getting RIPPED OFF by these breeders!!! :thumbdown

The pound has a smorgasboard of Designer Dogs!!!! :animal36

This is NOT directed at anyone in particular. I just had to vent!

I agree! I would LOVE a Morkie just from what I've learned about them here on YT. Those that have shown pics of their's have shown me how adorable they are but when I researched prices I found them to be ridiculously expensive. I could add a few bucks and get my little Yorkie girl instead...but would still LOVE to cuddle one :p

Xtine's Oreo is very CUTE but does not have the Yorkie markings - Oreo is almost solid black! As you can see by my avatar, I have a Maltese/Yorkie & Stormy is almost solid black - looks like a black maltese with a little white under her chin. & Velobabe, Stormy DOES LOVE TO CUDDLE! :D We did pay a price for her, but I don't have a problem paying for ANY dog - it's what your pocketbook can afford & what you want as a pet! Just like I can go to target & buy a pair of jeans or I can buy a pair of "Sevens or Citizen" jeans for $200 - they are still jeans!! (We all spend money different ways & we all have different opinions! ;) )

Rachel ~ You have the most beautiful babies, I believe I've told you that before. I agree with your reasoning also. If I found a Morkie that I fell absolutely in LOVE with I would have to find a way to have them regardless of being "mixed" but that's not an option for me since I can't even find any in my area. I'm just saying that depite the "love" factor, and if you just look at the wide scheme of things, people are tending to ask a lot more for the "mixed" breeds than one would think they should. I guess as with anything else in this world it's all a matter of supply and demand. If people are wanting them and are willing to pay the prices then the breeders are surely going to get what they can for the pups, regardless of their mixed status.

:p Anytime your lap gets tired and Stormy wants to still cuddle you can send him my way!!

I paid $475 for my Yorkie-poo and I think she was reasonalby cheap and cheaper than a yorkie. Also are said to have lived longer and healthier when its mixed. I looked in shelters and stuff first and couldn't find any yorkie-poos only bigger breed dogs which isn't what I wanted. So i could see somebody paying this "much" for this type of dog...only b/c it's sortve rare depending on where you live.

It really is a gamble..you dont really know how big your dog will get, what their personality will be like..you can only take both characteristics from both breeds and hope theyre accurate. I have a yorkie-poo and I had read up on her personality traits, how big she'd get, the pros and cons...and I guess really the only thing I wasnt expecting...is that she is EXTREMLY hyper and stubborn at times which is a trait of a poodle. It just all depends on the breeds your mixing and the mom and dad.

I agree with you. I wouldn't pay $1,000 (I paid $475) for a mixed breed either and I dont get why they are calling them "Designer Dogs"...Theyre just as adorable but it's insane what they charge.

Thanks for all of your input! I enjoy hearing so many different perspectives.
I definitely would not be purchasing a porkie mentally thinking it is a "Designer Mixed Breed" - instead that it will be a mix of characteristics - physically, intellectually, and tempormently (is that a word? :confused: ) of two great breeds - a yorkie and pom.
At this point, I am leaning more towards a purebread yorkie, but have sent a list of questions to the porkie's breeder to learn more...just in case.

HI! I do have a "Porkie" and his name is Oreo :) he's 9 months old now..

I do know that all people are different and will use their money and spend it in different ways, before I got Oreo, I did go to a shelter and they didn't have any small dogs at the time, they had only big dogs, and my mom wasn't going to allow me to have any big dogs in her home with my neice.


here is the only picture i have on my boyfriends computer of him recently :) pictures just do him NO justice :)

There is one of him as a baby (well like 4 months old, and the rest are more recent - sorry for the eye boogies.. he was getting a bath that day lol)
