| Sarahpgh | 05-18-2009 11:59 AM | My Dorkie I have Debbie the Dorkie. Her mother is a little piebald short hair dachshund, her father is a Yorkie, about 5 lbs. Thus, Dorkie. She is now 4 months old. I have worked for Dachshund Rescue, and have two miniature doxys in my forever home that I have adopted. One, Kyra, has seizures, which are under good control now. I have also volunteered for Pasco Co. Humane soc., and rescued a 5 lb. Yorkie female who was found wandering - she had been a puppy mill breeder and they apparently didn't want her any more. I got her together with a friend who lost her Yorkie in Dec. from liver shunt problems. She was in bad shape, but my friend has nursed her back to health; she had bladder stones, was dirty, etc. She is now so cute. I decided to see if I could find a Dorkie, to try to avoid the liver shunt/pancreas etc. problems in Yorkies and the seizures/bad back problems in Doxies. I did find one; she is piebald like her mom but is getting long hair like her dad, with a Yorkie face. I hope to someday find a grown, healthy Yorkie, but around here are a lot of puppy mills that make me sick. Pictures of Debbie are on my site. I will have her neutered when she's old enough. The reason I didn't get one from a shelter - no Dorkies anywhere around here, and I looked. |
