I inherited Charlie at 8 months now 3 yrs. He has started marking again. Any ideas? I really need help. I inherited Charlie when he was 8 months. When he was purchased, owner was diagnosed with cancer so first 8 months he was just fed and kept safe with no training. He was marking everything in the house. I had him fixed when he was about a year old and it seemed to improve. I have removed all carpet in the house and replaced with wood. Replace furniture with leather but find he is still marking. (He even markes the air purifier systems) Fellow Yorkie owners know the problem is that I never catch him doing it and since he is so low to the ground I don't always see it right away. He even marks my mini schnauzer when we are walking and she is going potty? Ugh! Getting rid of Charlie is not an option, as he was my mothers. I would really like to "fix" this problem if at all possible. One more question, is he too old to teach how to sit, stay, etc.? All he knows how to do is look cute. When I try to get him to come to me he runs away, unless he wants to be sitting with me or wants my attention. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. |
Welcome to YT. Belly band for marking. Not too old too learn, but "come" is a challenge for any age. |
Appreciate your reply I hadn't heard of a belly band until yesterday. In fact I thought this was something I had to live with until someone at Petsmart mentioned it was a behavioral issue. Havin had rescue dogs and fostering schnauzers that have had real issues it never dawned on me that Charlie would have a behavioral problem as even though he wasn't trained he wasn't abused nor neglected. I do give him credit on picking up the doggie door within a day or two. ( I think he couldn't stand that something might be going on out there that he wasn't a part of) aside from that maybe it is me but Yorkies don't seem to be the brightest breed. (Don't throw anything, I love my Yorkie to death) So Belly Band? Do they hurt? Is this something he will learn to stop with the belly band? Do I leave this on all the time? (I saw one post that they keep it on 24/7) Will he just hate it and chew it off? Is there some training I can do with him while he wears the band so that we can ween him off? Sure do appreciate your feedback and guidance. |
