Fact or Fiction: Blindness DH was told by someone that has a friend that is a groomer that if you cut the hair above a Yorkie's eyes, they could go blind. This seems really farfetched to me, but I thought I'd check it out. She said that they need the haircover when they're outside because of the brightness of the sun. |
Its fiction. I cut the hair above the eyes all the time and mine are 4 and havent gone blind. I have never heard that one before |
never heard of this,im sure some groomers will chime in soon |
I wonder where they got that one from. I'm going to say that is fiction because Ellie is certainly not blind. What would short-haired breeds do if that were the case? |

Maybe what was meant was this. Exposure of the unprotected eyes to the sun will eventually cause cataracts which can lead to blindness. Michele :-) |
mine either have their hair cut above their eyes or have it pulled up away from their eyes in a topknot and none of mine are blind and I know this fiction. it doesn't even make sense. have you perhaps been discussing cutting the hair and hubby would rather you didn't?;) |
Fiction! My Suzi has been clipped very short before> Even around her eyes. Never any problems in the sun! NOw, one of her most favorite activites to do is to sun bathe on our balcony. Seriously, she stretches out, and loves it! I do not let her stay for long, but she enjoys the warmth of the sun! Suzi has great vision, which allows me to believe that this is a myth. I have never heard anything like that before. |

I thought it just sounded like an old wives' tale. |
