Sterilize or NOT ?? It has been 8 weeks ago that Jessie had her first puppies. I am a bit concerned . She is still bleeding a little. I took her to the vet and he gave me antibiotics. (3 weeks ago) He said that I must consider to have her sterilized. I dont want to do that !! Do you think I am selfish or irresponsible ? She did not have ANY problems with her pregnancy nor with the birth itself. She was an excellent mom. I want to hear what u think. |

Funny you should bring this up her is a link to what has happend to Mollie who just had her puppies 7 weeks ago. I don't mean to scare you but, I hope this helps. I don't think you are selfish or irresponsible. Mollie had no problems either with her whole pregnancy. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17196 |

Why taking the risk of placing her life in danger ? What are your goals in breeding dogs ? One of my girls is of perfect size for breeding and have qualities but I have her spayed because I consider that there are too many peoples breeding Yorkies for the fun of it , without considering the standard of the breed . |
My heart is so sore today. Jessie went in to be spayed today. No more babies for her. The Vet said that with her pregancy the placenta attached itself to her uterus and when the pups were born the placenta teared the uterus and now it does not want to heal. It could become septic. I immediately said that he must spay her then. Please just anyone tell me that it will be ok and that I did the right thing. |
I will be thinking of her . |
It wil be okay and you did the right thing. Truly. |
Jesse It was best to spay her...tell us about your babies. Are you keeping them? |
The babies !!! They are so cute. NO I am not keeping them. Both of them has gone to their new owners now. I wish I could have kept them, but we are staying in a townhouse and I think it will be unfair to them if I keep them in such a confined space. The babies are two wiggle worms. Very busy !! But to me that is a sign of excellent health. They are plus minus 10 weeks old now and I've heard from the one new owner that hers is weighing 700grams now. Very tiny. (Sorry I dont have the conversion tables to give the weight in pounds or ounces.) They r very cute !! |

She will be fine I went through something similiar with Mollie last week. Her uterus did not shrink back down to it's pre pregnancy size so Iwent ahead and had her spayed and she had to stay 2 nights in the hosp. only because because she had a slight infection that was getting worse and they had her on IV's antiobotics before & after her surgery. She has been home a week now and she is doing wonderful. I know you are going to worry. But, they are doing what's best for her & so are you. Keep us posted. I will keep her in my thoughts today. |
You definitely did the right thing Benina. Thankfully you were watching her carefully and noticed that something wasn't right, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. When my silky had her puppies she had 6, the first one was too big and by the time she got him out he was dead, then 4 came easy but we lost the last one as well. Anyway the next morning she was so sick she couldn't even climb out of her box. We rushed her to the vet and it turned out her uterus had actually ruptured because of too many puppies. They did an emergency spaying and we bottlefed the babies for 48 hrs. Everything turned out well and I was fortunate enough to have her for another 12 yrs. I'm sure your little one will be fine too. Please let us know as soon as you hear how she did in surgery. Thinking of you. :) |
Jessie is out of surgery and she is fine. a Lttile bit sore I can see, but I fed her some noce bits of chicken and also gave her water with a syringe. The vet gave me some antibiotics for any infection that would occur. I believe that she will be up and about in a few days. Thank you all for the prayers !!! Love ya Ina |
Ina I think you did the right thing.Try not to be too hard on yourself, take care |
I know how hard it was to make that decision but I know it was the right one. I had a female who had to be spayed as emergency when her babies were only 2 weeks old. She had pyometria and would have died if she had not had the surgery. You sound so caring and this is one decision that a caring person would have to make. A non-responsible person might not have done the right thing. She will be up and around in no time. They are not like us humans..they bounce back quickly. |
