OMG! I never thought it really would... happen. But after having dogs for all my 46 years: it had never happened and I thought tho it made sense it would never happen. Max: the Yorkie almost died just now. He got his tags collar stuck in the air vent and I could not get them out. He was going nuts...I was freaking...the other dogs were nuts....(I'm sorry if I ramble...I am sitting here shaking and crying now that it is all over) Thank God I had a decent pair of scissors on my desk, (he was stuck in the bathroom in my bedroom; where I was) He bit me in is anxiety, which was not his fault. He lost control of his bowels...to be honest I almost lost control of my bowels..... The collar was so tight I was getting his skin when I was trying to get under it with the scissors. He finally rolled over and I was able to get the collar cut. I am now on the hunt to find some inexpensive collars that have the tag on the collar itself. With my being out of work for 8 weeks, it need to find some that I can afford. I never believed it..... Please pay attention to all warnings. I could have lost a baby today...**tear tear** |
I'm so glad he's OK! Thank goodness you were there. I won't put a collar on Missy ever. I am too afraid of this type of thing happening. |
I'm so glad he is ok. I always have my Uni wear a collar with tags and a bell so i always know where she is. I use quick release cat collars so if she ever gets stuck collar will come loose. There are very affordable ones at Walmart and lots of cute designs. They come with a bell already. make sure it is the cat kind. They are about $3, I just got an orange leopard print one. |
If you are going to use a collar on him all the time I would use a cat break away collar. I don't ever use collars on my furgirls...I am worried that something like what happened to you would happen to me! |
Thanks everyone. I use a cat collar on him but not the breakaway kind. I "was" out of work for 8 weeks and am so far behind I feel like I will never catch up. All my dogs wear collars 24/7 on the off chance they do get lost. I have looked on line for new collars/tags for all and I just don't have the $100 it will take. So fo now I am going to cover the vents with a screen and roll under and tape and I will then leave the screws out. (I have old screen on hand so no cost fix) Another lesson learned. God help us and out lessons. |
Sorry to hear about this. Is there a reason why he has to have that collar on? I never put the dogs tags on mine, of course, they never really go anywhere, and if they do, I just carry them |
Why not use a harness? You can put a tag on them. And.....they are safer for their little necks. |
that's why I never put a collar on Leo. There is soooo much that can hurt them ... it's scary to think about. |
I am so glad that you were at home! This could have been a major tragedy :( I do not use a collar on my Suzi either. I never have . Yorkies have extrmemly sensitive throats, and to me it is not worth the risk> When I take her outside to play I have Suzi always on a harness. When we are inside she is free. Even a cat collar , I have heard is dangerous to a small dog. I lean towards the safer side of things. :aimeeyork |
I just saw a thread on here the other day that had callers and you have their name and number embroidered right onto the collar and they were really cheap...like $10.00 Any help with what site that is? |
YIKES! I am so glad he is okay! I actually have been meaning to get a collar for Thor, but the harness he wears now is already pretty snug around the neck and I didn't want to have too much going on around there. I actually thought it was the law to have a rabies tag on a dog if it's outside? I would only put the collar on outside. Thor is chipped, so I am not too concerned about ID. |
omg, i'm soooooo glad your baby is ok!!!! thank god you were there when it happened!!!!!!! |
Go to boomerangtags.com they have inexpensive collars with tags right on the collar. You might want to look into this. So glad your baby is okay now. Wow what a scare. I can imagine how frantic you both were...poor little one. |
OMG! I'm so glad you were able to cut that collar!! Why not switch to a harness? Much safer for them. I'm much too scared to but a collar on my babies. I don't know what we'd do without the stepthrough harness. |
Because of all the foster dogs in and out of here they all wear a collar just for ID. They all have access to a dog door. (the littles only when we are home) As small as the littles are if god forbid they get out I want to help the honest person find their homes. As for the Greys, because they can run so fast and can go so far they also wear tag collars for the same reason. If and when Max is on lead, (leash) he uses a harness. I have 8 dogs here right now so even at $10 a collar it will be $100 for with shipping. So for now I will use a cheap fix: I have some screen in the garage and will cover the vents for now(rolled over so secure when put back in). When I get caught up I will get the collars. I really just wanted to warn everyone! Thanks for the ideas tho.... |
