New to YorkieTalk 1 Attachment(s) Just wanted to say hello to everyone. We have a 18 monthe old female yorkie named Abigail who we are just in love with. We are currently waiting for her to go into heat so we can have her breeded. Can anyone tell me, how many times a year a yorkie would normally go into heat. Not sure if its just once or more. Also are there any other signs except for the normal bleeding and swelling If there are any owners out there from Michigan with an AKC male yorkie, we are going to be looking for a stud. We would be willing to give pick of the litter after successful breeding takes place. |
I believe you are suppose to wait until their second heat and at least 2 years old. They go into heat about every 6 months. |
i think u should look in 2 it a bit more .They have 2 b at least 2 years old i think its a nice thought of having puppies but there r things u got 2 think of ie will she b a good mother & do u know how 2 look after her when she's pregnant plus after when they r born finding new homes its a lot 2 think about . |

I think that soliciting for stud service is against YT rules, I also just wanted to mention that if you don't even know how often the bitch goes into heat you should probably do a LOT of research before breeding her |
probably should discuss it with your vet and a yorkie breeder ... have all the tests and have a plan for her care if anything should go wrong. |
BTW .. Abigail is a cutie :) |
hello welcome to yorkie talk you will like it here learned alot about the care of yorkies. Buddy will soon be three years old and they help alot along the way. |
Welcome!! Depends on the girl how often she goes in heat. Everyone of mine are different. |
Please look into it more before you decide to breed Abigail. She looks very dainty. Have you checked with your vet that she is big enough and strong enough to have pups? I would hate for you to lose her when she gives birth. You should also definitely wait until she is at least 2 years old. |
Hi and Welcome to YT!!! You should definitely get bloodwork done to check her Liver values. It's heartbreaking to find out after the fact. And it would be good to know in case she might need a c-section or something. |
welcome to YT... |
If she is 18 months she should have already had a cycle. Welcome to YT..... |

Welcome to YT. Hopefully you came looking for good advice because if you ask here you get it and sometimes it may seem harsh but it really is only because everyone here is so passionate about these little ones. Your baby is indeed beautiful but she does appear to be very tiny. From all I have read here breeding a yorkie under 4 lbs is very risky. Good luck. :doghouse::dogprintsCharlene :dogprintsMama to Laddy:dogprints:doghouse: |
Welcome! :) |
Welcome to yorkietalk!! Please do some more research Before breeding your girl Her life depends on it! |
Welcome to YT!! Your female needs to be aleast 2 yrs old or have had her second heat before you should breed her. They generally go into heat every 8 months or so. Some can have their heat as often as every 6 mths or so. Make sure you do all the proper testing before breeding her and do alot of reseach first so you are fully prepared. It's a good idea to find a mentor close by you to assist you in your first few breedings. Good luck and again welcome to YT. |
