Hair color changing more than once? Thor will be three in August. I still see changes in his hair color sometimes; he has some very dark blue on his shoulders that seems to be growing out, so his entire back is the same color silver. A few months ago, his chest fur started turning bronze, the same color as his muzzle. I really liked it. The consistency of the hair seemed a little different, more coarse than the rest of his hair, which is extremely fine and silky. I've noticed now that his chest hair color is turning BACK to the original light apricot. The ends of the hair are the dark bronze, and the roots are almost white. :( I'm sort of sad to see the bronze go. Is it normal for yorkie hair to go back and forth like this? |
I don't know how "normal" it is, but Boo is 6 this year and he got the most beautiful bronze and pewter on his back when we let his hair grow out for the winter. He didn't have it last winter and I just love it. I'm sure he will be back to black when he gets his summer cut, but it was lovely to see this winter. Gracie Ruth is 16 months old and she is still changing her color. Sure wish she'd hurry up and decide on a look. I think Yogi finds the whole 'color changing' thing entirely too much work and has decided to simply stay black and tan. Which is perfectly fine by me as I love the way he looks. I just love how all 3 have their own very unique color to go along with their very unique personalities. :D |
My Jewels silver changed to a dark blue this yr and she is 4 |
Stormys shoulder area is that blue as well but I noticed the more down towards her butt you go the hair is getting very very light silver AND curly lol |
It's interesting how these little one's change color's. Buddy went from gold/black to gold/silver to gold/blk with gold highlights. If I shave his body, which I do, his back is prue black velvet. If I let his coat come in it's black roots with gold streaks however his head, legs never changed they are a rich gold. |
funny you asked this, because Fiona is getting black again right on top of her shoulder blades, and then she is silver, its so crazy, but so pretty! :D |
Thanks you guys. It's exciting to think Thor might keep changing colors no matter what age. It keeps things fresh! I thought yorkies stopped changing by age 3. I haven't seen any drastic changes in the past few months, but I guess when you obsess over your dog as much as we do, you watch every hair. :D I wonder if it is related to diet or life style? Love that some dogs find it too onerous to change colors all the time and stick with what they have. :) |
I would LOVE to see pictures of Thor's colour transitions. Like maybe the final phase of each drastic colour change and have the pictures lined up. It's exciting to see how long the current colours last on our yorkies. :D I would love mine to be as light as platinum if she can't keep her deeper steel blue one day. ;) I also love the rich darker coloured yorkies. They're all so pretty. |
I wonder if it has anything to do with the change of weather? When it gets so warm and the sun hits their coats? Making them lighter? Humm? I don't know? I am excited that our little darlings can change their coat colorings even after 3-4 yrs old> |
I think it has to do with the weather. Teddy sometimes looks more golden in the winter but in the summer his hair gets lighter, like a blondish. Sophie also changed colors. She has highlights that would appear sometimes and go away, i think in the summer time they would show up more. It's beautiful tho. |
