CKC vs AKC Why would you chose one over the other? What is the difference? |
Im not a registry expert but I would only buy an AKC dog because they are the only registry that wont register a mix dog. Also they do check ups on breeders and require DNA samples |
I only go with AKC. I heard their standards with breeders are more strict than CKC. |
I agree, I would never pay money for a dog unless it was registered with AKC. |
The CKC is the Canadian version of AKC and there is really nothing wrong with a CKC registered dog- they are just from Canada. Their standards are equally high The Canadian Kennel Club > Home If you buy a dog that is AKC you can get it registered CKC but the process is really quite long and involved- not sure what the process is to go from CKC to AKC. |
There are 2 registrys with the initials of CKC. The other one is the continental kennel club and it is the one asked about more commonly in the States. It is an alternative registry |

Don't know if it's true, but I read somewhere that you can register any dog with the CKC (Continental), all you have to do is have 2 people sign attesting that the dog is indeed the breed it is being registered as. Which would mean that they don't even have to come from registered parents. |

Canine Registration Applications Canine Registration Applications are used to apply for Registration in the following circumstances: 1.Dogs which are currently registered with another recognized kennel club may be registered by completing the CKC Canine Registration Application, making a copy of the other kennel club’s Registration papers, and sending them to Continental Kennel Club’s Registration office with the proper Registration fee, or 2.Dogs over 6 months of age which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing 2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along with 3 photos (front, left and right) of the dog to confirm it is ‘of proper breed type’ as defined by our current CKC Registration Rules and Regulations.Canine Registration Applications are available in PDF format from our web site. CKC(continental) is also where most puppy mills register their dogs because they did not want to follow the strict AKC standards imposed on them. Bybers that have lost there AkC breeding rights also go this route with registrations of their dogs. Also, Ckc(continental) does not respect the limited registration clause on AkC puppies so the AkC puppy that is registered with CKC(continental) will now be able to be bred and have the puppies "registered" with ckC(continental). I would never buy or recommend this bogus registry. |

akc they are the best as far as i know about reg. and you can reg akc with anyone else but not anyone else with akc akc is tippity tops! |
Just according if you just want a pet. Some people papers means nothing. My last akc pup I sold the person never even registered her. I have a beautiful CKC girl that I would not part with for anything. AKC is better. I wish she would have been but her mother was a gift from my Dad before he died. The mom died and I kept her pup. |
I agree AKC is definitely the better way to go, but my Sophie is CKC and I love her just the same. |
