FOOD DEHYDRATOR anyone??? Hi Everyone, I've recently decided i want to make some dried apples and carrots for my babies. Can anyone recommend me a good and fair priced food dehydrator? Which brand do you use? Does anyone here dehydrate fruits / jerky for their furbabies? I got this idea after going to 3 Dogs Bakery, and got some dried carrots for Simba and Teddy, and they LOVED LOVED LOVED them! They cost $10 per bag, so I figured i can just do this myself! Thanks in advance!!! :) |
I make liver jerky. Partially freeze it and slice it as thin as you can before you dehydrate it. This is my guy's favourite. |

That's a great idea! |
I just use my oven set to 200 degrees. You can put paper towels over cookie sheets. Beef liver, cut in cubes, (first boiled for 1/2 hour) takes about an hour. If things start to brown too much, you just turn the oven down 10 degrees. I don't know how long vegetables would take, I'm going to try it. A convection oven would even work faster. |
Wow what a good idea. Thanks. I have a dehydrator and now a new use!! I have a 4 tray excalibur. It is an oldie but a goodie!! |

How long does it usually take to dry fruits? Do they sell the excalibur at wal-mart or target? thanks so much! |
Here some information on drying foods, I was wrong about the oven temperature, it should be closer to 140-160. Drying Food You can safely use the oven for up to 5 pounds of food. |
To answer your question about where to get the excalibur, I think looking on line would be your best bet. They are a little expensive compared to the other brands out there. Excalibur dehydrators have a temperature control so you can adjust the heat for those on a raw diet. Seriously you can just use your regular oven at a low temperature. Then you can decide if you really want to make the investment in a dehydrator. |
The Excalibur is the ONLY way to go. We live out of ours! Let me add that I always recommend shopping with Discount Juicer, Quality Juicers, Dehydrators, Wheat Grinders & More! for appliances like these because their prices are always the best, the customer service is amazing, and they ship really fast! |
