A rescue is supposed to take an animal out of a high kill shelter so that they are NOT put to sleep if not adopted in the alotted 10 days or however many days they have now. |
Hm. Well, it does look legit to me, just small. It claims it's being run by four people. They have a typo on their home page. :rolleyes: Also, I don't see the yorkie listed. If you work with them, I would have some questions: - ***Where do they get these dogs from? - Where are they keeping these dogs? How are four people fostering all these large breeds together? - What is the background on the dog you are interested? Temperment? Health Issues? - What do they base their prices on? - Can they verify their charity status? What % of the adoption fees goes towards the dogs. This is just off the top of my head. :) Good luck to you on finding your yorkie. |

If folks are buying pups from mills isn't that just approving their actions? It's still putting $$ into the millers hands, why not go thru ASPCA (or local authorities) and fight to have them shut down, the animals actually rescued and then adopted out by reputable agencies? I've dealt first hand with a few "rescue" organizations, sadly I was not impressed. Too many of them are actually making money instead of focusing on finding the right forever home for the dogs. I hope that you can find a good rescue group to deal with, sounds like you'd make a great Mom:) |
$500 seems to be a very reasonable price for a healthy Yorkie rescue (with or without papers) - especially if it has been neutered and has had annual vaccinations. Yorkie ownership is not cheap and the initial investment is the least of the expenses. I would hate to add up the annual expenses in vet bills, food, treats, toys, etc. for each of my guys. In fact I purposely WON'T do that 'cause I don't want to know :D |
You guys have all made me feel better. I will eventually find the right little one to be a platmate for cookie. I know it will take time. I just thought if I could help a poor little one who needed rescued I would. I am really in no hurry to get another, as much as I would love to have one right now. You have to find that one special one just right for you. And even though I did fall in love with her picture, it could have not been a match when we met. |

Apparently he had a sister, and I often wonder where she ended up. At the same time, I don't understand how a rescue can spend money at an auction, but tell people not to buy from pet stores. It's not a black and white issue, and some rescues choose to work with mills on a limited basis. If a rescue does gets dogs from mills, I believe that they should be open about it so people can make an informed decision about working with them. |
