DIY puppycut I was just wondering if all of you took your babies to get puppycuts at a groomer. Have any of you done it yourself instead? I've read some really awful stories about incompetent groomers and was hoping I could learn a little basic grooming before I get my baby. When I was a kid we had schnauzers and I used to help cut their hair... ;) hehehe but I wouldn't really want my yorkie to have a schnauzer cut. Do groomers use clippers for the puppy cut, and if so what number blades. Also, I was wondering if cutting the hair changes it's texture or if it would still be able to grow out as long and as silky. Thanks! :aimeeyork |
I never go to the groomer with the girls . I have learned how to groom them by looking at videos , went to the groomers with the dogs of my friends and look at what the groomers were doing . The first puppycut I have done was horrible but I kept practicing . |

I go to a private groomer not petsmart and they do a great job. I get a puppy cut but ask them to leave enough on top for a topknot. My dogs hair has grown out and its still silky. It looks not so scruffy when its freshly cut. |
I haven't take Gucci to the groomer. I cut her hair using scissors. I tried to use clippers but she freaked so i just don't use them. |
I never go to the groomer . |
Thanks for the info guys! It makes me feel much better that other people groom at home too. And I suppose if I do a really bad job I can just get some cute clothes. |
I was always told that the difference between a good cut and a bad cut was 2 weeks . With time and practice , you'll be able to do it , I am sure . |
I took my puppy to PetsMart, and they did a really good job. My boyfriend wanted him cut so his hair was like an inch short but the groomer said he woudl only scream because the noise was too loud ( I was there, so I witnessed the entire thing) and he was behaving himself, she would just get the clippers next to him and he'd start his crying. so she suggested that when I come in to do just puppy cuts for some time and each time she would put the clippers near him(while not on) and slowly introduce him to them. she also suggested bringing him in more to get to know them personally and to get used to them. |
