Time to watch out little ones! Not that we don't watch over them when they are outside but, I just heard on the news that a man let his little 7 lb girl Hadie out and a coyote grabbed her and took her into the woods (this happened in Middleboro Mass). He went out looking for her and found her dead. The news person said that this is the time of the year that they have their cubs and they are looking for food for them. They also said that if you see one tomake alot of noise they will run off. I feel so bad for that poor little furgirl...Just wanted to let you all know. |
OMG, that is so sad. Spring time does seem to bring out a lot of various critters; good and bad. I live in a rural area myself, so am careful and never let Molly out of my sight. From reading other's posts of various misfortunes, I hope to learn from those and be as protective as possible without being ridiculously smothering and yet still allow her to be a dog. As other than mainly for pics, Molly doesn't wear clothing excepting a sweater outside in the cold weather. Nor do I keep a collar on her inside. She is microchipped. :animal-pa |
OMG, how scary & sad is that. :( I just can't imagine what that person feels like seeing their precious dog being carried away by a coyote or big bird. :cry8: Thank you for the reminder that this can happen. |
2 Attachment(s) Not to scare anyone, but as a forwarning... I have 6 greyhounds at the time. A five foot chain link fince. I had a coyote jump/climb the fence and proceded to attack and try to kill the greyhound that only has three legs. I think her screaming brought out the rest of the pack and they saved her life. I have since found the fence bent up on the inside. Showing that they will GET IN. Jac-fooy made it thru a pretty bad surgery: and today she is fine. **Jax could have out run the coyote, but for the most part Greyhounds are not afraid of any other dogs. That is all they know. Dogs.. Anyway..Becareful. You just never know what they will do |
OMG! that is horrible!!! That poor baby!! Did the coyote jump back over the fence? My Parents were watching Sadie for me one day (didn't have Lillie yet). My Mom had Sadie outside with her and when she looked up there was a hawk flying around...a little too close for comfort. So Mom picked her up and brought her in...I just can't bare the thought of the pain they must go through when they are grabbed onto and swept away...or bitten and carried away. |
I also live in Massachusetts and the other night while my dd was walking Laci a coyote was about 8 feet from her and it just ran past but Im sure he was watching Laci thinking she would make a great dinner... Now I dont really walk that late only stay in my front yard.. my dd was horrifed.:eek: |

Although the news man also said that coyotes are afraid of humans..I wonder how afraid though...especially if they are hungry...our neighbor told us that the month before we moved into this neighborhood a coyote was running up the middle of the road with a bunny in it's mouth..and we live in a neighborhood where the houses are rather close..I have alot of woods behind my house, I have heard bunnies squealing (horrible sound that breaks your heart) so I know they are around here..I NEVER leave the girls out by themselves..I would never be able to live with myself if anything ever happened to them. |
I have a friend who lives in Plymouth close to middleboro and she lost her cat last year, her cat got out of the house and within one hour of finding her in the woods outback she was already dead from coyote's, it was soo horrible, but this honestly was about 20 feet behind her house she also lives in a wooded area... My daughter was really scared and said it was kind of weird because for about 2 mins Laci was stopping and making a growling noise she had no idea why, I think maybe Laci sensed the coyote in the distance lurking... :eek::eek: |
I had another yorkie (Mr. Mellow) that was given to me by a friend (he was going to the pound). He was a bigger Yorkie, maybe 12-15 lbs. He got out one day and the coyotes got him. We searched for a whole day and didnt find him. We were passing out flyers to find him the next day when one of the houses we went to said that he had come to their doorstep after he had been attacked. He was too mangled to save. They said they made him as comfortable as possible and he died having someone petting him. Coyotes are a very serious issue with our babies. You never know when or where they will stronke so please always be aware so you don't lose your baby like I did. |
OMG I think if I lived in America I would be terrified to let my baby out in the garden! I dont think we realise how lucky we are in England that we dont need to worry about coyotes, snakes, crocs or spiders to name just a few.All you yorkie mummies over there please stay alert Id hate to hear of any yt babies getting hurt. x |
For Jax..I am not sure what happened to the coyote. I was at work and the big dogs have always had access to a doggie door. We did later walk the fence line and found where the fence was dug under a little and bottom of the chain link pushed up on the INSIDE of the property. So we figure that is how the coyote had access. We now walk the fence a few times a week. With more houses here..they get close but have yet to come back into the dog section. I have the property sectioned off. Half for the dogs and the other half for DH garage and work area. That way we can drive to the garage or work on the "toys" and not worry about the animals. |
