too attatched! help! My Lola is 7 months old. I have heard that yorkies will usually pick one member of the family as their favorite. She has chosen me! She has to keep me in her sight at all times! When I leave the room she will whine and try to come get me. I have three kids who adore her, but if I leave she does not care about any of them. :( I try to have them take her outside to potty and all she does is stand at the door and try to look for me. She wont potty for them very often. When I leave her to run errands my kids say all she did was look for me and she wasn't any fun. I have to say that she does okay when we are home alone. My kids are in school all day so if I have to leave she will just lay on her bed and sleep. She never appears anxious or bothered when I tell her goodbye. I love Lola but when will she cut the strings? Is this a puppy thing? She did not come from a abusive/neglectful past and we waited to bring her home when she was 12 weeks. She is just so attatched to me! I am her primary caretaker and we really bonded but WOW! My husband calls her my little lamb. Will she get more independent? I try and have my kids do more for her so I don't have to, but Lola still wants her mama more then anything! I am not really complaining, just more wondering if it is a phase or just a yorkie thing. Thanks! |
It's not a phase. You can try allowing the kids to feed her and give her treats...but even then it may not necessairly change her behavior. I am the primary care giver to Ramsey....but Ramsey adores daddy. |
I think it is a yorkie thing. Our little Kayla sleeps on top of me at night even. She won't eat without me there. She was our Krissy's puppy and is so stuck on me it is unbelievable. Our girl Krissy is a daddys girl and follows hubby everywhere. All the yorkies are like 2 year old wanting to follow and be iwht mommy all the time!! I love it :p |
No, its not a phase. Ben is almost a year now, and he is the exact same way. I can't leave the room without him noticing and running to follow me. I dont mind it, I love that he does it. At first it was really bad to the point that he wouldnt even go to my BF, but now he can stand to be away from me for a short while and play with my BF. But he never follows him, only me. I'm not sure that there is a solution though! You have a buddy for life now :) |
I have to laugh about the eating thing! Lola will not eat unless I am there. When she sees me sometimes she jumps into her bowl and starts to chow down because she has starved herself! What is up with that? So weird! I guess she will be my little shadow for life. I don't really mind, but it does make my kids feel bad. She will "tolerate" everyone else is all. She looks like it is painful to have to go to someone else. I am sure she wishes I would just wear her everyday so I never leave her side. Silly dogs! |
I agree that this is not a phase. My Rocky was the same way with me and I got him at 6 years old . What did help is I would give him a ton of attention first thing in the morning. Then he would be more ok with wandering off with daddy or playing with copper in the next room. He still would look for me if I was out of the room for more than a couple min. I didn't really mind it, actually my mornings are still very sad for me because we had our own special routine and I really miss it. |
I honestly have wondered about this too, I love Laci to pieces but she will not do anything at all unless I do it with her... she never will play with a toy, she doesnt know how to entertain herself if Im doing laundry or cooking supper she will just sit and cry , I feel so badly for her....it really makes me wonder..I have left her to do food shopping and my kids say the same thing she will just fall asleep by the door till I come home. That makes me feel bad because they try to play fetch or play with a toy with her and she just wont! |
Yeah ... some dogs do this What you can do is try to spread the stalker behavior out to the other members of the family a little Don't be the one to feed her let the kids take her out for walks and give her treats |
My 3 yr old Jada does the same thing I don't have kids in the house and hubby is almost bed ridden and now in the hoospital ..I went to go see him and I put her in the crate ...(I do that everytime I have to leave) she will bark all the time that I am gone and run back and forth until she gets sick . When I get home she's all excited and I let her out her heart will be beating so hard poor baby I usually don't go anywhere except maybe 2 times a month ...I think I am going to try to get her a ,,,I can't think what you call it but I can carry her where I ggo and people might just think its my purse lol She does the same thing when hubby home barks all the time until i get back:animal-pa |
