I got Teddy a friend !! I've been talking about getting him a fur friend for like a year now, but he's so picky that I thought I would never find another dog that he wouldn't try to eat as soon as they met. Yesterday my daughter and I were riding around with teddy and came upon a local humane society having a pet adoption day so just to kill time we stopped - which is a BAD for me to do, because those animals just break my heart and I want to take all of them. Anyway, teddy did his normal - growling and barking and shaking at every dog that came near us, then I spotted this one dog that was just sitting there taking everything in and not making a sound so we asked if we could see him outside his crate. He is a 4 year old Mini Poodle who grew up in a puppy mill as a breeder, he was only neutered a couple weeks ago when the humane society acquired him, but WHAT A LOVER. he climbed right up in my lap and took a nap, and although Teddy was leary of him at first, they are getting along pretty well now. This dogs story was so horrible I couldn't have left him there if I wanted to. He spent his entire 4 years in a cage only coming out when it was time to breed. He freaked out the first time we took him on grass because he didn't know what it was, and today it rained and that was completely new to him too. He isn't trained in any way, but he does know his name and he follows us around wherever we go, I can't believe this poor thing still loves people after the way his life has been. We are in the process of teaching him how to play (plus potty training, sit, stay, all that). The worst part.....after we got him home yesterday there was a neighborhood dog barking and he tried to bark back - he has been de-barked ! Has anyone ever heard of this? because I hadn't, it was explained to me by someone who knows alot more about puppy mills and that kind of thing than I do, but they actually had his ability to bark "removed" and now he sounds like he has laryngitis when he tries to bark. The cruelty that people perpetrate on animals never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for letting me vent!! |
Awww...I"m glad he's learning what "love" is. What's his name??? |
His name is Wyatt....I wasn't that fond of it, but he's 4 years old and after all he's been through I'm not gonna make him learn a new name too. It'll grow on me :) |
You will need patience, but as Wyatt spends time with you and has a new wonderful normal dog life in your family, you will know that you have done a great thing for a homeless dog. My Chloe makes improvements every day and I am so glad she is out of the puppymill environment and is learning how to play like a normal dog. |
No matter how bad he had it before, you and Teddy and going to give him a life beyond his wildest dreams. I think that calls for a . |
Awwwwwww so glad you found a buddy for Teddy. You are such a good mommy for rescueing that baby:)Post pics soon:p |

Welcome to YT Wyatt, Teddy now has a brother:D:D:D Thank you shuber for giving him a new forever loving home. :ghug: :2hearts2: . |
Coongratulations on adding Wyatt to your family,I cant wait to see pics of the two new found brothers :) |
I'm so happy that you took Wyatt:) Just remember with a puppy mill it takes time, so don't get discourage in the months to come. I too have a puppy mill, Ivy and this July it will be a year that I got her. But the rewards are great, it was just a few months ago when I saw her run for the 1st time. Things like that will just melt your heart. May the puppy mill breeders get the same as they dished out to poor dogs in their care:mad: |
Yes, I have heard about 'de-barking' and my mother starts crying every time it's mentioned. Congrats on your newest family member. |
Your story made me well up...I just pray God blesses you, BIGTIME, for what you have done for one of His little creatures...How very very very kind of you! Maggie:) & Apple:aimeeyork |
Oh that poor baby:cry: Thank God he was saved and now has a loving, wonderful home with you:love: I just cannot believe the cr#p that some "humans" inflict on our animal friends, all in the name of money. I've always wanted a toy poodle:) Can't wait to see some pics! |
Oh, sweet little Wyatt is going to live the good life now! You are such a great person for taking him in and giving him a loving home. We rescued a yorkie from a puppymill bust just four months ago, and she is a completely different dog today than she was four short months ago. I like to think all of her bad memories have been forgotten and they now only start back as far as the day we got her... |
Congratulations on your new baby and I'm so happy that Wyatt is now home with you. He will live a wonderful life and hopefully he will soon forget about his horrible past. That whole de-barking thing is one of the most horrible things I've ever read!!!! |
Bless you for giving Wyatt a loving forever home and a new brother to play with, eventually. Those of us who love animals will never understand how other human's can torture them. They're just sick IMO. Enjoy your new furbaby, what a lucky little boy he is. |
Wyatt is so lucky to have such a caring family...Congratulation.....Please send us some pics. |
This story made me tear up. What an angel you are for taking him in... He will be the happiest dog in the world! :D Those poor dogs that have to go through that... :( |
I'm so glad Wyatt is with you! I have heard of the debarkification process because my father had 18 dogs at one time and some neighbors didn't like the noise so if I remember correctly either one of the neighbors suggested it or the vet suggested it but my father never did it. It is mean! That's so cute that he follows you around...I love it when my pets do that!!! Congrats and I'm glad your other dog approves...meant to be:) |
Congratulations on giving Wyatt a second chance @ life! I'm so happy he has joined your family and that Teddy seems to approve too. It sounds like a match made in heaven. Bless you for taking Wyatt into your home and hearts...Hugs to all...:ghug:Welcome to YT Wyatt...:D I can't wait to see pics of him and Teddy together...:):2photo: |
I am so happy for you! Thank you for giving that wonderful little guy a home :) |
Thats nice they can play with each other. I am looking for another female yorkie for Lola to play with. Sam doesn't like to play with anyone so now we are on the hunt for a little female yorkie. |
Thanks so much to everyone for all your support. Wyatt is doing great and he and Teddy are learning how to play together slowly but surely. He has learned how to walk down stairs and he's starting to walk up with some coaching. TV seems to freak him out for some reason. He'll just stare at it and make that little noise he makes when he's trying to bark. Has anyone else had that experience? I try not to have the TV on when he's in the room cuz I don't want him to be stressed. BTW I cried my eyes out when I read the post about how they de-bark, that was absolutely heartbreaking ! I have taken pics of him but I haven't been able to download them to the computer yet. I'll do it as soon as I can though. He's even getting pretty good about peeing outside. Poop's gonna take some work though, but thats ok. Oh, and my husband got him to "sit" on command for a piece of chicken, so he's a very smart little guy, and SUCH a mush!! |
I am so sorry. I didn't tell you to make you cry I told "everyone" so they are aware. I have been working in "rescue" and with Dog Town (beautiful place) to get the worst one here shut down. It is maddening what happens. Good luck to you and your new "little" and the "littles" family. |
i hope wyatt will be more happy now that he has a new family:) |
