Is this TRUE??? I heard from several people that male yorkies are more loveable and affectionate than female yorkies. I was told that female yorkies are "alpha-type" and have the aloof independant streak of a cat. Is this true??? I really want a female but if what I heard is correct...I'm better off getting a boy. |
I have 2 females...they are both lovable, however one is more than the other...My older female is more attached to me and the younger one is attached to both my husband and myself. Personally, I prefer females over males |
Know that most female dogs (not just Yorkies) seem to be more dominant but that doesn't mean they aren't affectionate. My female is not and she is very sweet. But I have had female dogs in the past that fit the stereotype! I had not noticed, the independent streak you mention though, usually I found them to be more demanding and needy haha |
I have had girl dogs all my life (all different breeds...) and Couver is the most affectionate dog I have had. I don't know if it's the breed, or just his personality, but he is needy, affectionate... and VERY attached. I am very happy to have a boy because I have read that they are more affectionate than girls. I do however hope to have a girl eventually, but overall, I prefer his personality to all the girls I've owned. But if you don't want needy, I wouldn't suggest it :p |
I have had many of each over time.. the real loves of my life and the ones that needed me more and showed more affection more often were my boys... Like Gracie when she wants her time she lets me know with a whine that is so different.. and is always the same when it is pick me up and rub my belly.. she gives great kisses at night when we go to bed... kandie is again when I want you... and mariska is a baby.. mara again is loving... but gracie some times takes that away from her trying to be dominate... anne |
I don't have the experience with Yorkies but I am a rescuer and I have had many different dogs. With that said all the males iv had where generally more affectionate and not so moody. I have 2 boys right now and a female and my god my female is so moody, she is the boss - she rules the roost and is not as affectionate as my boys. I perfer males but thats just my hubble opinion. |
This is def. not true! All yorkies have diff. personalities, every single one. I have 1 male and 1 female, i had another female but she passed away. My male is affectionate and loooves to give kisses but when he is done he will go on his way and is independent at times. He also hates being hugged or cuddling. My female can be independent at times but she is a lap baby and comes barking to me to pick her up and sleep with me and scratch her belly. But she barely likes to cuddle, etc. Now my female that passed, she was very dependent on us, super affectionate and super friendly. She didn't act like a 'bitch' at all, she was such a cuddly baby, loved to be held, loved to be hugged, kissed, everything. So no its not true. I've heard of some males that arent affectionate at all as well. |
Both the dogs i have had have been female, and both very snuggly and cuddly. Molly would win gold for licking, and loves to sit on my lap while i am on the computer, or watching the tv. |
i have 1 male and two females .. our male is defiantly a mans dog very very affectionate to my hubby were as our girls don't care and will take a cuddle of everyone our male will sit for hours to be groomed while or females run at the site of a brush  personally i think its just a myth.. females are much easier to dress much more available for the girlie to wear |
I have 7 and sex doesnt matter, I dont think, I think its strickly the personality of the dog. All of mine are cuddly, one female is very independant and will only love on you when she wants to, but when she does it makes up for lost time. |

I have had both and they were all so different. I think it just depends on the individual dog. They are all very sweet in their own way. Right now I have a female and she is a luv bug at times and at other times she wants to do her own thing. She luvs hugs and kisses, but sometimes she's like, "ok mom, that's enough!!!!:p |
My males are definitely more submissive and cuddlers than my female...the reason I have 1 girl and 3 boys. |
Depends on the individual dog, I am not sure if you can tell when they are little puppies. But my female is 2 years old and she is extremely cuddly, she would sleep on my lap all day if she could, she will give you tons of kisses when you ask for one and she will lay right on my neck when I am laying down just to be close. She's VERY lovable. :p |
My male will be 2 in August. For most of his life, he's been a little independent, only "submitting" to cuddling for as long as it took him to make his escape. But lately, he's become alot more affectionate. However, my little girl has been a fuzzy lover from the first. I don't know how she give so many kisses and still keep her tongue wet ;). Puddie thinks he's Alpha, even over the pitty. But that's only because Bella let's him *think* he is. She usually lets him run things, unless she disagrees, in which case she tells him *exactly* how the cow ate the cabbage :D. So she's REALLY the Alpha, she just doesn't exercise the option too much. Is there such a thing as a "passive Alpha"? What I was trying to say is, even the Alpha can be very loveable and kissy. |
