What to ask a breeder? I got my mia back in Feb. I thought I did my homework but I guess I am completly naive when it comes to purebread Yorkies. I am contacting the breeder for more information on the Dam and the Sire. I don't know what questions to ask. Does anyone have any information on this? I just want a healthy puppy. But I do want to know of any genetic problems for the future.:aimeeyork |

This helped a little. Unfortunately I have already purchased her. I guess what I need to know is what health issues I need to ask about. |
Is Mimi healthy now? If her breeder is aware of known genetic problems (liver shunt, LP, umbilical hernia) in Mimi's line, the breeder should have stopped breeding from the line before Mimi. |
Yes. she is healthy. She is getting her 3rd round of shots tomorrow. I just didn't get any information when I got her. I didn't know how this worked. I got her (I guess) from a broker. He didn't breed the yorkies. I think he was the middle man. I wasn't even aware that she came from OK until I got her paperwork in the mail. :animal-pa |

http://www.prisonersofgreed.org/ListA2006.pdf Puppymills churn out puppies for profit with no concern about health testing or genetic screening. Have you vet check her knee for luxating patellas and definitely get a bile acids test as soon as she is old enough (20 weeks) to make sure she doesn't have a liver shunt. Other than that, there is nothing you can do but be aware that the "genetic time bombs" poorly bred Yorkies carry may not go off for years and be prepared financially for big vet bills later on. Hopefully, that won't happen. |
