killed a baby bird So I get to start working from home today (my agency closed its offices and we now get to work from home) and I am typing away on my computer and notice the dogs were quiet. I get up and there is something on the floor and Sam is sniffing it, I thought one of them poo’d. I get up closer and it’s a baby bird missing its head and there is blood on the floor. I go to get something to pick it up with and Harley takes off with the poor bird. I started screaming, poor Sam went to the kitchen and just stood on the corner looking guilty. I am chasing Harley around the house with the bird hanging out of it. When I got it from him he just looked at me as if to say, "I got you a present for your first day working at home mom, I don't know why you are yelling". I don’t even know where they got it from, I don't see a nest anywhere in our back yard. |
Ugh, I hate when they do things like this!! Our old Golden, Daisy, who passed away a few years ago did this to me. I was younger, maybe like 12 years old and was home by myself after school. I saw Daisy going CRAZY to get outside so I thought she had to go pee. Wrong! There was a baby bird she saw and she grabbed it right in front of my eyes and ripped the poor thing to shreds! I was in tears! |
Baby birds don't fare too well at our house....and neither do baby bunnies. |
my girls are killers too. Especially my Westie.:( |
I don't know why but I have always been scared of birds and chickens. Mandy, our little schnauzer that passed away just before Thanksgiving, brought a bird in the house one morning. I almost fainted. To make matters worse it was alive. Thank goodness my husband was still at home. When I told my vet she said, just thank how careful she had to pick that little bird up not to kill it. I think it was probably hurt and she just brought it in to us. |

Suzi loves to watch the birds at our apartment complex.. We are on the second floor, and have a balcony. She sits there and is alert as can be as they fly past all over the place, and are noisy ! Suzi will not venture down the cemented stairs thank goodness , but those birds are a temptation! Poor girl! We use to own cockateils. She use to whine at their cage and one of the birds would peck at her... She nearly got a hold of one of them , in her mouth, my son was able to rescue the cockateil who landed on the floor right in front of her ! A big reason why we do not have the birds anymore... LOL. ;) |
My Lhasa-poo that I used to have once brought in a dead decaying bird one morning. It was foul!!! For a while I didn't even know it was in her mouth. It was disgusting!!! |
Oh boy, what a lovely present. :D . I hope you aren't "gifted" frequently..... I bet another bird was flying off with it and dropped it or perhaps a kitty was passing through your by. Not to sound mean, I am REALLY glad that this post isn't in the picture or video forum..... |
It's that time of year again! Sophie has killed two over the years, and thankfully my husband was with her both times:eek:. He was so upset! He said he had a heck of a time getting them out of her mouth.:p |
I get mouse presents all the time! One time my old girl Hannah had a mouse:D and I wouldn't let her in the house. She hid it on the deck stairs (I opened the door and didn't see the mouse in her mouth), she snatched the mouse up and ran in the house! Of course, with me screaming behind her!:eyetearss When you live in the middle of no-where, with nothing but fields and trees around you, there are lots of critters for them to bring home.:tongue036 |
