general growth calculations is there a general rule for telling a puppy's eventual adult size?? i am getting a baby boy who is born 2 2nd 3/4 ounces and at 4 weeks is 9 ounces. when do they stop growing?? many many thanks for the kindness when i started at YT, such wonderful people in here...thanks-oh yes i found my almost mine baby at bjdaniels in kentucky- cant wait |
It's a bit early to "guess" his adult weight. Rule of thumb..is triple the 8 week weight or double the 12 week. Usually the latter is closer...but it's all a guess. Some grow more than others...but most is done within the first 6 months and tend to have one more growth spurt where they "fill" out...between 6 - 8 months old. |

Oh , I'm so glad someone re-introduced this thread. I was just trying to do the oz. conversions and got confused with the charts. Mine will be 12 weeks, so that really helps. Thanks |
If you want to follow along with the Guesstimator (my own name for it) here is a Yorkie Growth Chart: Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow 9 ounces at 4 weeks is projecting a very small baby under 3 pounds. But like others aid, it is really too early to tell. |

It's harder to tell the younger they are - there are lots of reasons a little one may be under weight. I like the double the weight at 12 weeks (triple at 8 weeks works well too most of the time). But, anything under 8 weeks is REALLY hard to guesstimate, because there are so many factors involved. |

thanks thanks for the time you took to answer. the breeder bjdaniels is very good, i had one before from her --i like the idea of pet or breeder puppy because as a person just wanting a furbaby, the same quality of a breeding dog can be yours but at a little less price. it also gurantees that for some especially the tiny ones they arent bought to breed. your shampoo looks interesting--thanks again |

Of course, I can't imagine selling AKC Yorkies for only $400 unless major faults are seen. I guess some breeders are going for quantity sales though. |

noooo absolutely not in barbara daniels case. the dog she is talking about is an older dog -she has quite a few new puppies she is keeping and wanted cooper to get to live in a HOME...you must read the whole paragraph around this blurp. im sorry but i dont see the value in undermining another breeder if you are not sure of your facts. again bj daniels breeder is awesome and she does not deal underhandedly at all. i and alot of other customers of hers will attest to this. if you wanted a pet who is older and had been bred before then a dog like cooper is what you would look into..take care |

im not a fighter at all i just have had such bad luck with other dogs ive gotten and then i found and had a beautiful dog from barbs and another one coming soon, and i hate to have people have the wrong impression of her is all, yes please do put the name on the site. im not fighting, i understand the questions very well, i wish someone would have taken me aside in my other bad dealings0- but please as a satisfied owner, bj's is awesome thanks |
