yorkie pup color change my yorkie is now 3mo old. She is black and used to be dark gold (like almost orange) now her gold is like changing to a light tan. On top of her head, down in the roots are turning a grayish color but the ends are still black. The hair on her head almost looks thin and sparse, but her fur is a bit fluffy and a little wavy. wondering what color she may be as adult. And what type of coat she has. Thank you |
Welcome. I only know from what my girls have done, mine have all stayed black and tan, except for Pixie who at almost 3 started getting some silver on her back. Yorkies can change for years. It sounds like yours is stating to break color and may go to the desired steel blue. The parents can give you an idea of what she could end up like. |
Yorkies go through many, many coat color changes. There are lots on here that can give you insight about what your Yorkie's coat will most likely turn into, but all I can say is.....be prepared for soooo many changes!!! It's so amazing to me how MUCH they change!! :D Bella was my very first Yorkie, and I absolutely had no idea about just how much they change...it's been so neat to watch her. She's only 1 yr. old now, but I'm told she will most likely change even more......I can't wait to watch it!! |
I'm certainly not an expert since Annie is the only Yorkie I've ever had....but ... She is registered AKC as black and gold and most of her ancestors are on there as black and gold. Her back has always been very black, but her face changes from very brown-gold to almost beige and then back dark again. If you really look at the face and head hair, you would find about 4 shades of color. Her little tail also changes color from gold-brown to almost a silver shade. Sooooooo ...I don't think there's a definite answer for your question, at least if your Yorkie is like mine !! I almost forgot to tell you Annie is 4 years old. |
Welcome to YT! This is such a fun stage imo, Maddie is 6 months and most of the hair on the top of her head is a silvery color, and we are just now seeing her real tan start to come in at the roots. they all have different "breaking" patterns and tend to keep changing over the next year and up to 3 years. Oh and usually there coat gets a thicker again too it wont stay so sparse and thin:) It to me like she will have a correct silky, blue and tan coat. What color were her parents?
