How do I get Noelle used to riding in the car? Every time I take her somewhere in the car, she throws up. It doesn't have to be very far either. Is there a way to get her "uncarsick"?(I know that isn't a real word. :rolleyes:) Any suggestions would be appreciated because I love having her with me and would love taking her in the car. |
The only things I can think to suggest to you are: Don't take her on a ride right after she's eaten. I'd wait at least an hour or two. Make frequent, but short trips. Even if it's just putting her in the car and going around the block. Make the trip to some place she loves to go...like a dog park or pet store or grandma's. Whatever she gets really happy to see. Maybe offer a small treat / reward for the end of the trip. I had to do this with my GP as he was having a lot of trips to the vet and though he loved the attention they gave him, he still knew he was getting a poke too. His messed were huge to clean up. Try to think of it from your pup's perspective and maybe that will lead you to an answer to your problem. I'm only giving an example here....so if her situation is some thing like she doesn't go out much and is usually in your house going on rides can be scarry. And if you get upset when she throws up, that will make her more nervous. I don't know you so it's hard give advice. But I hope it helps...again I'm only giving examples so you can try and use them to figure out what she maybe thinking. Good luck! |
Hi. It sounds like she is nervous.. I would start with sitting in the car with her bring her bowl of food, let her eat in the car, sounds crazy I know, but it helps relate good things with the car, these things have worked for my furbabies. I then drive 2 blocks or so, then back home, I say, all done, good girl. Another thing I've done is take a flossy, bullystick and let her have at it. Jazzie is a bit more nervous about things than the other 2 furbabies so I give her a calming pill called Quiet Momemt found at Petsmart. With the things I have mentioned she has gone from panting and shaking on a 30 minute drive to riding 2 hours and being relaxed enough to sleep. Best of luck to you. |
