Pickin a puppy Saturday! I am going to see my puppy this weekend. There are three girls. Any advice on how to pick??? I have heard of "letting them pick you" but what if they all come to me? Or none? I am suddenly stressed out about this lol. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks ;) |
That's so exciting! It's true that a lot of picking a puppy is based on your gut feeling, but also really look at how she responds to the other dogs, and how she reacts around people. Usually the ideal puppy is curious and happy to see people and isn't overly aggressive or timid. Another thing to do is seperate them from the other dogs when you visit because a lot of the time puppies act different with their littermates than when they are alone with just you. Also, make sure you check her ears are clear of any discharge and eyes look healthy. I'm actually going to pick up my puppy in two weeks and just went through all this, ahaha it can be a bit overwhelming. Good luck!:) |
I wasn't even going to get my little Fergus, but when I went to the breeder and we talked about what kind of furkid I was looking for (tiny, good natured, male, calm) she brought out (one by one) a few different ones for me to talk to/meet. Fergus hopped halfway across the kitchen floor, where I was sitting and started chewing my shoelace. When I picked him up, he licked and licked me. When we brought out another pup, he was fun and played.... I just KNEW he was the one. The first 3 and I didn't click, he was my boy. I wrote the check and picked him up a few weeks later...and now that I have had him a month, I can't remember life without him. Let them come to you. Be patient. But you will know....someone will catch your attention, and you will know. Kate |

After you have looked at the physical attributes of each pup - size, sex, etc. - you have to look at the pup's temperament. Like the other posts have said, look for a puppy that is sociable with both you and other dogs, a puppy that is friendly and playful and not scared or timid. To check if the pup has a generally good temperament, start tickle and stroking the puppy. Move your hand over to a side while still tickling. If the pup starts to lie down and turn on its side, the pup has a good temperament. These pups are easy to train and very eager to please. Good luck. We are so excited for you!!:D |
It is good to do the Cambell test to see what kind of personality the puppy have. Campbell Tests If your are not a dominant person, you will have a hard time with a dominant dog... You also want to match your energy. An little more hyper dog might need more exercises to be happy/healthy. also a really small yorkie might not be able to go for long walk. Good luck. |
Yes, let them interact with you Play with them See how they interact with each other and you'll find the right one One of them will stand out for you sooner or later Best of Luck! ;) |

Thanks! I may try some of the "campbell tests" tomorrow! I am so excited. :) :) :) |
Don't worry....you will know which puppy is "THE one". :) |
If you saw my Frankie post for Friday, we just got him. I agree with a lot said here. Pick the breeder, know the personality you need, look for good conditions and healthy dogs. They are all cute , but not every cute puppy is right for an individual. Good breeders want the right owner for one of their pups--the screening goes both ways. The right dog is a match made in heaven, the wrong one is like a bad marriage that you feel obligated to stay in. |

Let your puppy pick you; that is how we got Titus. Titus was one of six puppies, we played with all of them but Titus came over and plopped down on my lap and stayed there. He claimed us :-) |
how did it go???? |
It was good, found just the right one! I am making a new post about it! :) |
