Question What exactly is a biewer? I'm not finding a good description although the photos lead me to believe it may be a Yorkie with unusual coloring. However, I once thought teacups existed, too, so I'm probably wrong. Could someone explain, please? |
I found this site...hopefully it will answer your questions. Biewer Yorkie Information and Pictures, Biewer Yorkies |

Thanks! I had seen the first site but the second says its the same breed standard as the Yorkie but with different coloring. Pretty much what I had guessed, I think. They are absolutely gorgeous! I kept reading about people on here on had them but had no idea exactly what they had. Beautiful...wonder if their temperment is like a Yorkie's? |

I've had both and I find the Biewers to be not as "intense" as the Yorkie. Mine still bark of course, but give up faster and go at it with a different attitude than my yorkies did. -Diana :animal-pa |
The Biewers are a different breed and not a Yorkie. You can find a wealth of information at Biewer Terrier Club of America, Inc. |

I had to look it up awhile back because people on here kept talking about them and I had no idea either. lol. It confuses me why they aren't considered Yorkies since the parents of the first Biewer were standard blue and tan Yorkies.. This is from the Biewer Breed Blub of America... The Biewer, pronounced (Beeva) originated in Hunsruck, Germany in 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Werner & Gertrude Biewer started the first Biewer through a recessive piebald gene occurance in their Yorkshire Terriers. Although Mr. Werner Biewer passed away in 1997, his legacy lives on through this exquisite rare breed. Biewer started with the master parents "Darling von Friedheck" and "Fru Fru von Friedheck". Both dogs were blue and tan and were world youth winners in 1981 at Dortmund. Their marriage brought the first blue, white and golden Biewer, "Schneeflocken von Friedheck", born in January of 1984. |
Go to this website Biewer Breed Club of America it'll give alot of information. |
Krystee The information on the History of the breed is from the Country of Origin Germany. There has been much banter of the years regarding the breed. Myself, I chose to affiliate with a club who would Only allow Biewer to Biewer Breedings since its foundation. The breed is such a gentle fun loving and trusting breed, I hope you have the opportunity to get to know one. They truly are wonderful. |
I swear, my next dog will be a Biewer. |
