lost and found I found a tiny female about 5 yrs ago. I called my vet, he traced the rabies tag...so I took the Yorkie back and guess what, owner didn't want her and gave me the mother of the little girl also..she had a huge tumor and needed surgery, did well. Your little guy sounds like he has been lost for awhile..I would contact the animal shelter and ask about a lost Yorkie, if that is zero, then I would say since there are no posters or ads, his owners aren't looking too hard for him. |
i would say at least make an effort to find the owners..... from the way you described him he looked very uncared for, but that might be from neglect or that hes been lost a long time...... either way i would be soooo angry if someone didnt make an attempt and it was my dog...... but i agree with most the posts... SCREEN THE PEOPLE if they attempt to claim him...... pictures are great indicators (but from teh horrible state he is in it might not look like him ????) just be very people, i cant stress enough how many dishonest people there are in this world just waiting to take advantage of other people... good luck, and i really hope you do get to keep him, but try and make an effort, i know how tempting the choice to keep him is.... :p |
I would say contact the local vets and perhaps place an ad, but definitely make sure they have pictures of him or something that can identify him for sure, as some people will try to scam a free Yorkie. If no one claims him and no local vets report a missing Yorkie and you've done your part in trying to help locate the rightful owners, I'd say keep him after that. I don't think it's wrong of you to keep him after doing the above, just my two cents! :) |
In my opinion, you know what's the right thing to do. By you posting your concerns here you showed me that you were struggling with a tad of guilt. You will feel better knowing that you at least tried to find the ower. Most likely the owner won't show up, but if they do then think how happy you will have made them. Think how you'd feel if he were yours and no one made that effort. If the pup is meant to be with you then the owner won't be found. You can live with yourself by at least trying. My mother called me yesterday and told me there were signs in her neighborhood that said someone had lost their 4 lbs Yorkie. You wouldn't happen to live in Florida? ;) Good luck! |
I would take the Yorkie to get checked for a microchip and run an ad in the paper. That way I know I did all I could. Not only could one get loose but there are also many stolen pets out there. This Yorkie may not even be in the same state it went missing from. Also ads may have been run that you didn't see. Of course its also possible the poor thing ran away looking for food, but I would not be comfortable keeping a pet I hadn't tried my best to find the owner to be sure. They may let you keep it for the costs you have paid out caring for it, if they don't really care enough to feed it properly. |
Hi to all here at YorkieTalk Well I have to say it, I'm very impressed with most of the people that responded to the original post. Sometimes when I join a group it doesn't take me long to cancel my subscription because of the posters and some of their messages. I am thrilled however to find people here on the internet for a change that are compassionate even though they can hide behind their computer monitors and really be anybody or as ugly as they would choose to be. But for the most part the people here responded in a way that lets me know that it really is about the betterment of the dogs, their families and everything that makes all of us Yorkie Lovers! Thanks to all the positive posts on this OT! :D |
:) Hope you stay! |
I can totally relate to the feeling that your angel came to you for a reason, as I am a great beliver in fate and signs. However, I can't help but think how my own heart would break forever if my Yorkie took off by accident and I never saw him again. I think I'm as attached to my dog as I am to my kids and to think I wouldn't know if he had been hit by a car or if someone took him home and was taking care of him would be a form of torture that would stay with me every day and time wouldn't heal that. You are questioning what the right thing is to do, but I think you know that in all fairness, you have to make an attempt to find his family, or you wouldn't have posted in the first place. This shows you have a good heart. If your little angel was really meant to stay with you, no one will come forward to claim him. Someone else in the forum said to get proof that this Yorkie belongs to whoever may come to claim him...which is very good advice. Whatever you decide to do, I hope that this works out in your favor. I know how the little imps can steal your heart. :) Honestly, I hope no one comes forward for him, because he is obviously good for you and your family. Good luck in whatever you decide. |
Have you taken him to a vet yet so see if he is ok and also to check for micro chip. My friend mom lost that papilong last year and this poor lady was heart broken. The puppy ran of on one of the worste coldest winter days. She was micro -chiped but they never found her. So long as you have done your best to find the owner... I think it would be fine to keep the puppy. |
