more than one yorkie Hello everyone, We just got our new baby over the weekend and after reading a few books that sound more like military treatment than loving the dog i took away one thing. that they really like attention. I know probably most of us have to work, me and my wife both do and he will be at home alone for at least 8 hours a day. I wanted to see what all of you thought about having a second yorkie to keep each other company? To me it only makes sense. I even called up the breeder and they still have his brother! Any drawbacks of having a second yorkie? I would only think that it would make the 2 of them happy right? Also please dont think we torture our little guy either! He has the whole house to himself and it only took us about 1 day to potty train him on the paper, I ended up returning the crate because i just couldn't lock him in there for up to 8 hours. Our mother in law is there with him most days too. |
I think everyone needs at least 2 Yorkies:D:D:D |
Yea after just a few days with one ive drawn the same conclusion! |

I think 2 are a good idea. However, I find that my two sleep while I'm away, & not in the same room. So, I'm not sure about the "for company" justification, but who needs a justification when it come to Yorkies. |
Getting another one would be fantastic for all of you! They would make great companions not only for you and your wife, but also for each other. Congratulations! |

If I were allowed more then 1 I would one hundred percent get another one, infact I may be looking to move just for that reason ;) |
I totally would! |
Go for it!!! I have 2 and they love each other.:D:D |
We got another one for the same reason, while I love this little guy more than anything I realized that Harley (my newest addition) really would have been betters as an only child. They just have completely different personalities and Harley is all yorkie, I swear Samson is a different breed (I haven't figured out which one yet) in a yorkie's body. When I first got Harley I felt so bad for Sam because Harley just didn't know his boundaries (and really still doesn't). Like I said I love both my little guys but I wish I had done more research on the personality of the 2nd dog I brought into the house to make sure it was a good fit. Harley just started puppy classes last night and I am hoping he'll learn some manners :). Having said that when they do play well together it is the best thing ever. :D |
I would definitely get another. I have 3 yorkies and a maltese that live in the house and 5 labrador retrievers that are mostly outside. My little ones play together, sleep together and are never far from one another. Plus, that's just more puppy love for you!! The reason I have so many is totally for me. No matter what is going on in life, my furbabies always make me smile. |
I definitely recommend having at least two! Murphy & Chelsea are best buds - I don't know what they'd do without each other for entertainment. :p Welcome to YT!! :) |
I have two yorkies and looking for a third.. |
My husband and I work also. When we got Daisy we hated leaving her home alone so we got another yorkie and another. We have 3 now. They love each other and all have different personalities. |
You know this morning when I saw my babies sleeping on eachother, I said to myself I was very glad that I have 3. I would feel terrible if Coco was the only one here. He loves his little sisters. They keep each other company. Just best buds. Good luck with your baby. My vote is get the other one before you change your mind and then he will be gone. They need eachother for company. you won't regret it. |
We have a yorkie and biewer, and wow they are so great together. They play, eat, sleep, well pretty much everything together. We no longer have the lonely zoomies! :) But they still argue over my pillow  |
I have a boy and a girl, different litters and breeders. Both have been neutered. There is always someone at home, so they're never alone for more than a few hours, but they are great companions for each other. Besides, they tussle and tumble all over the place, which means *I* don't have to exercise them as much ;). Having a pup of each sex allows you to see the differences in personality. Besides, little girls dress up SO nicely :D Yorkies are like potato chips: Betcha can't have just ONE :D :D |
I have only had my yorkie for 2 weeks, we have 2 other inside dogs a lab and a jack russell now they get along fine, but i am begging my husband for another yorkie because she is too small to really play with them. |
Well since you have this one, I think having another one to give him company and someone to play will be fine, just becareful to leave them the whole house they can get into things like electric cords etc;), congratulations on your new pup, such a cutie:aimeeyork |
Hubby and I also worked full time when I got my first furbaby...I got her WAAAYYY to young...I NEVER left her alone..My parents are retired and I would drop her off with them everyday on my way to work. Although my parents really enjoyed having Sadie with them I felt I needed to get another one for companionship. (that was my excuse to get another one!! LOL)...anyway...we got Lillie when Sadie was 2yrs old...Sadie didn't care for her new little sister for quite a while...now they play together and sleep together...matter of fact...they are both laying on my lap right now!! I say GO FOR IT!! you won't be sorry!! |
I love having 3, would have more if I could. They are great company for each other and so much fun to watch and more love. |
I love the two puppy theory. They do play together and keep each other company. Best to have a puppy for each lap too. |
I know I am definatly the minority here , but I love having the one yorkie.Although it could have something to do with the fact that I lost my best friend border collie Jessie just 3 weeks ago and miss her dearly that nothing could replace her. Tia , my yorkie (9mths)only knew her for 6 mths but they had such a good relationship together. Now its Tias time to hopefully spend 14 years with me as did Jessie. Anyhow never say never they are such special addictive dogs. Ask me in a years time lol prob different answer. |
I had Cash for two years before I got him a friend. I wanted him to be a good example for her. I read somewhere that if you get two as puppies, they bond with each other and less with you. If you get the other puppy when your dog is older, they still bond with you and your new dog can learn from the older one. I agree that you can't have just one yorkie!! I think two pups together would be great friends and the bonding will be much, much easier. Good luck with your decision. :aimeeyork |
Wow... The feed back is great!! Now I want another one too...lol |
I have had Mufasa and Scar for 6 months and I couldn't even think of how lonely one would be without the other. They play, sleep, eat, and even relieve themselves at the same time. It has been a little hard training 2 puppies at once but nothing comes easy. They are brothers that definitely stick together.:) |
