My Yoda As many of you read my posts for the past couple days, Yoda beat the parvovirus and came home from the vet early yesterday, while I was there I had them add a tube of Nutri-Cal on the astronomic bill. (He is worth every penny though) Since he has been home, he has drank quite a bit but has had no interest in food what so ever. I called the vet this morning and she said as long as he was drinking, there was no need to bring him in, just to make sure that he was drinking his water and to give him a fingertip of NutriCal every 2 hours. My question is, has anyone else experienced the parvo? And, if so, did your pup have problems getting them back on food? Or, anyone with helpful hints on how to get him back eating would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rachel and :animal36Mr. Yoda:animal36 |

Hmm when I worked at the vet, the cases of parvo that I have seen the next couple of days the pups didnt really want to eat much, just drink. The vet told me that it was "ok" but I didnt like the idea of them not having anything in their tummy so I just started to give them whatever they would eat. I boiled some chicken, gave them some wet food,yogurt, little bites of some jerky, nothing to bad for them but I tried it all!! Maybe just give yoda something he doesnt really get and see if that helps just to get something in his tummy!! |
I tried some Honey Nut Cherrios earlier, I figured that that wouldn't hurt and it would also help his sugar level. He just licked that honey off of them, but wouldn't eat any. I am going to raid the cabinets and see what I have that would usually be forbidden. The boiled chicken seems to be a really good idea! Thank you! |

I haven't experienced anything with Parvo but I do know that NutriCal has a lot of calories in it. Maybe he's getting so much of that he isn't hungry for real food? I would try boiling some rice in low fat chicken broth (I use canned) and add some small pieces of boiled chicken breast. Boil them seperately and add the chicken later...that way the chicken fat doesn't go into the broth. You might also try the canned version of whatever dog food you are feeding him. Well, I ran to the store and picked up some chicken. I came home and boiled the chicken and mixed it with some soft food and some honey nut cherrios. I put it in his bowl and he just snubbed his nose at it.:thumbdown I decided maybe i would try spoon feeding him. :thumbup: Well come to find out, Yoda is just spoiled rotten! :D He took 4-5 good spoonfuls and is now sleeping on my feet. I think he just likes to be pampered! I am just so glad that the spoon trick worked on him! Hopefully I can gradually work him off the spoon now! LOL:yelrotflm :thumbs upYoda's Mommy:bravo: |
