Freaking out!!!! My son and his girlfriend were out walking her little Chihuahua and a huge hawk swooped down and tried to pick up little Chloe!!!!! Thank goodness she was on a leash!!! Have you heard of this happening? I live in a very wooded area and I see hawks flying around all the time!! Now I'm freaking out!!! |
Yes, that can happen with small dogs. One of many reasons to never let your dog outside unsupervised. :) |
Our vet actually warned us about that. He said to never let them go outside alone as hawks have been known to take small dogs away. |
It happens more times then we think. Never let your small pups out alone and always be on the look out. Thank goodness everything turned out okay. |
The breeder i got Astra from warned me too!! How scary is that! Thank god your dogs is ok. |
I have a lot of them where I live, they fly around all of the time. I'm glad it turned out ok, please be careful. |
I'm glad everything turned out okay. I worry about that all the time where I live. We have turkey buzzards too. |
I never see hawks/owls here - but I've heard it happening plenty in AZ. We don't let the babies in the yard alone. |
I posted on here a couple of weeks ago. One tried to get my Laddy in our front yard and I was only a few feet from him. Scooped him up just as the hawk came at him. Very scary. Glad your baby is ok also. We bought him an xpen with a cover now he only goes out on leash or in pen. |
I'm glad Chloe is all right, sometimes they severely injure the dogs just attempting to pick them up; they have very sharp talons. We have hawks here too, and I've often wondered, if wearing clothing helps protect an animal, and make it look less appetizing. WM, I see them all the time here, but we live close to a lake, and I think that attracts them. |
This seriously freaks me out!! Everytime Pierre is outside and I am not closely watching him, I seriously stress out. My boyfriend tells me to relax and that he will be okay. Guess I have a completely valid reason to feel the way I do. I have not had kids yet... and if I am already this protective and worried... eesh can't imagine how I will be with kids. Stupid hawks.... I would be completely heart broken. My neighbor was telling me about how her dog was actually taken by a hawk and she could hear her poor baby in pain as it flew off...... ugh makes me sick |

Yes, it's common. We have had hawks in our yard and when I took Lola for her puppy shot the vet warned me about hawks. |
Yes, my breeder and vet warned me of this and I have also read on this site of several incidents. It is very frightening! I never let Noelle out alone or without a leash but still the fear of injury is enough! I had one of my dogs out when a hawk landed on a branch above us ( in broad daylight) and dropped a headless rat right in front of us. I scooped my dog up immediately and ran inside. I understand these are birds of prey but I sure don't want my darling dog to be one of them!! |
Does anyone know how many pounds a dog has to weigh before you don't have to worry about this? |
