Foster Yorkies, good idea or not? I just filled out an application to foster Yorkies. I hope I didn't make a mistake. I may possibly get a foster yorkie and then never be able to get rid of it. Geez, this could be heartbreaking. I cry over all your animals that I don't even know when something is wrong with them. Can you imagine me getting attached and then having to give it away? Anyone else ever foster? |
I have never thought about fostering and I know it's for this exact reason, I don't think I could even breed. I would want to keep every foster and pup. Everyone tells me I should be the spca because I have taken in so many animals and then found good homes for them, but finding is different from fostering. For me to actually agree to take in a dog and then give it up, I know I couldn't. I think you should do what your heart tells you. There is always a need for foster homes, & just think, you could be doing the best thing for a yorkie who needs to be in a loving home where he can be socialized well and then when he gets a new family he will have an easier time ajusting. It's sad because a lot of fosters come from abused and unwanted homes. I wish I could do it, but I know I couldn't. I could adopt though which is just as nice. Good luck in you decision! |
How does fostering work? You take care of them for a little while until the owners' situation improves? Or until they find a home for him? That would be tough giving the pups up, but at least you'd know you helped out a pup in need. |
How sweet :) I do the same thing when I read some of the post on here. I've thought about fostering myself but, like you, am afraid I'll get too attached. I got sad and depressed after I sold each puppy from and unexpected litter so I know I would not be a good candidate for fostering. I think it's great though and highly respect anyone who does it! :) |
Fostering puppies is a great thing to do . This can be heartbreaking but how rewarding when the person sees the pup to go in a superb home where he or she will be loved and appreciated . I done it once and it is a real joy to see the reactions of the forever mom or dad . They are just like peoples who are adopting a child . |

How wonderful of you! I fostered Hallie after she was taken from her home. THe idea was that I would foster her until she was healed and better! Needless to say it took me about 10 minutes to fall in love with her and she's been with me ever since! I commend you for what you are doing, I think it is so great to open your home to a baby in need. |
How nice of you. Let us know how it goes if you get one to foster. |
Thanks for the answer, Lily's Mom. Sounds like a win-win situation for all. And, if you really get attached, you COULD keep one, couldn't you? |
Dont think i could foster a dog  I would want to keep it  |
Fostering is so tough BUT so rewarding. And, remember, you can always apply for permanent ownership of the animal that you feel you cannot give up. I have fostered dogs, cats and humans. My human was a 6 week-old little boy who had several deformities. The way I did it was this..I knew I would have to give him up so there was the tiniest bit of my heart that I kept aside so that when he did leave me(at age 9 months) all my sadness and sorrow was stored in that wee place. It is very difficult to love them and let them go, but remember, they are only on loan to us...But, we do make the difference in their lives and that is what has to sustain us. |
My friend Jinny is fostering puppies for MIRA , an organization that give guide dogs to blind peoples . She is heartbroken everytimes that a dog have to go for training but she is so proud when she have news that the dog make it and he or she is placed with a blind person who really appreciate the young dog . Next week , she will receive her 7th puppy . |
