The last pee of the night OK, does anyone else deal with this? Every night when it is time to go out one last time our Gracie wants nothing to do with it!! She will just sit and pretend like she does not understand any of the words we are using. Any other time of the day she is happy as can be to go out. We are still working on training so I know this is part of it... But does anyone else deal with this?? |
Jackson's done that a few times... usually only when I go over to my dad's house to spend the night though. I will take him outside before bed-time and say "go potty!" (He knows what it means!) and he just looks at me. Then at 2 or 3am... he has to go potty, of course. Stinker. |
Mine do it too but same thing, if they don't go they will have to go out at like 3am so we just make them :) They think "bed time" is 7pm LOL |
I've noticed that sometimes Gracie Ruth or Yogi seem nervous going outside late at night. They seem way more wary and alert. It usually helps if I step out with them. Could it be that she's 'on her guard' for danger? |
Just the opposite-at 10pm my two line up at the door to the backyard wanting to go pee so they can go to bed. Heaven forbid, I'm busy there is a lot a grumbling (Bubba) and whining (Sissy) to let me know that I am inconviencing them and they are tired from their long day protecting the house and sleeping on the couch |
if molly wont go, i throw the ball for her to chase..just one short run after it makes her wee...job done! |
My yorkies are always up for a run/pee in the backyard!!! But Lucy like to just hangout outside and As soon as she come back inside she go right for the pee-pad. |
Samson will go with no problem. Harley will go outside and then fall asleep in the grass. he does this almost every night. I have to make him walk around, which is hard with a sleepy puppy, before he'll pee. if he doesn't go though he usually pee in his xpen at night so I just wait till he goes. |
At 9:00 pm Bailey is down for the nite. She'll curl up on my lap until we go to bed. We don't make her go out before bedtime as she holds it all night - she always has. However - we get up every morning (including weekends) at 5:30 a.m. and she goes out then... |
Buddy does not understand going out for a wee, unless it for a walk/wee, but luckily he has stopped weeing during the night, so he is really good |

Yup... once my Dex has relaxed and fallen asleep on my lap on the couch when its time to go to bed I let them out one more time and he stares at me when I say "out" like he has no clue what that means. He is just done and does not want to even move, never mind go out into the dark/cold/wet/etc... night!! LOL |
There are more scary noises outside at night and both of our dogs don't like to go out there. Cindy is 11 and was out with us when two large cats (black panthers, I saw them) were stalking something in the woods. They scream when they hunt and it sounds like a poor animal being torn apart. Cindy freaked and hid for hours and now wants no part of going outside at night. When Reesie gets comfortable it's hard to get her up and out. I catch her at 4am looking for a pee spot and try to get her to go on the pad. The Michigan State Police Wildlife Department showed up a few days later after a neighbor called about the cats, and confirmed that they were looking for them. So that's another reason not to let Reesie out alone around here. I've never known a dog to be afraid of the dark but Cindy is. |
Oh Gosh I'm sure proud of my baby. Her last pee is around 8:30 to 9:30. Then she sleeps thru the night and makes me between 5 - 6 am. She's done this since she was about 11-12 weeks old. I'm lucky. But she still won't poo on her pee pad. She will only go by the front door ON the rug. No matter how many pee pads I put down, she won't go any any of them. |
