A question for breeders or anyone? My female yorkie Ruby cupcake is the love of my life but a have a question. She seems so small but I weighed her and she weighs 5lbs and she is only 6 months. Does this mean she will be over the breed standard of 7lbs. Regardless of her weight I will still love her till death do us part but I am just curious. She seems so small though and I don't know where all those 5lbs are.   Do any of the breeders babies weigh this and still stay within the standard. |
at six months ur mostly there Hello i would say you could be under 7 lbs at a year going like this or right at it i dont think you have anything to worrie about :D |
Is she a show dog or are you planning on breeding her...because if your answer is no to those questions then her weight is really irrelevant if you like the way she looks. The "breed standard" is really only important to show breeders or other breeders who want puppies who are within the show standard. Don't worry about it...even if she continues to fill out and gain weigt, no one carries around a scale to weigh your yorkie except the vet!!!LOL It's none of anyone elses business what she weighs. :) |

Do you know what she weighed at birth or when you got her? You can check to see if she is overweight for her birth size by checking the yorkie growth chart. If she is overweight you may want to discuss her diet with your vet. There is a real risk of allowing them to become overweight as yorkies tend to have knee problems. Carrying more weight than necessary will just place a greater burden on her knees and increase the probability of her having troubles later in life. |
I agreed with Yorkie Mama. I dont think Ruby will pass 7 lbs. She is very cute by the way. Around 6 months they usually start slowing down their weigh gain. |
A lot of kids put most weight during the first six months then thier weight slows and begin to fill out. |

If she is 5 pounds at 6 months old , she will be of standard weight . |
If she's 6 months and weighs 5 lbs I'll have to say that she's going to stay under 6 lbs. They start to slow down around 6 months. I'd say that as far as height and length, she through growing...but she may gain a few more ounces. JMO |
The only input I have is that my Chattie quit growing and gaining weight at around 7 months (she finished off at 5 1/4 lbs.) Chizzie continued growing and would be a slim and sleek 7 lber, but love to eat and is right at 8 lbs. And my dear sweet little Peppy stopped growing sometime before he turned 7 months at 3 lbs. |
At 6 months Tinkerbell was just under 5 lbs. She is 9 months now and just a little over 5 lbs. So maybe she gained 1/2 pound in 3 months. Don't worry too much about it. |
Sounds like shes just gonna be on the smaller side. That still a good weight though and nothing to worry about. |
six months i always say at six months your almost done but 8 is more true unless your my gizmo who at six months was three lbs at 8 3.6 and at three years 6lbs he likes to eat with him Mommy! he's helping me diet by eating MY food hehe my vet rolls his eyes at me but what do you do ... and yes he is now off the human grub .... and resenting the heck outta it |
