Puppies changing color... My puppy Thor is 13 weeks old, and his coat is Black and Tan. His front legs are slightly turning more silver we've noticed, but I was wondering around what age do Yorkies coats turn color? His father was the typical silver/blue yorkie colors, but his mother was more black and tan. |
Hi, I was told that a Yorkie will not have its true color untill after it is a year old. I am not sure if this is correct though but it was in my case. Even though Milo is not 100% Yorkie that was the case with us when I got him at 7 months he was black and tan and as you can tell from my avitar that is not the case any more. |
Their heads tend to change color first...and usually by the time they are 6 months old and their coats afterward. It can take up to 3 years for them to change completely. |
I can't remember exactly when Cash changed colour, but by six months all the black was gone. He continued to change colour and grew much lighter. Now, at 2 years, he has his permanent coat which is much lighter than his coat at a year. I don't think they all start at the same time, but I just wanted to give you an idea. It is actually so exciting to see their permanent colour come in! |
My Tia Dalma is 3 months old, she is a blue and tan. I am noticing that the black in her body has silver roots coming in. She is turning very light in her face from when I first got her. I think it's exciting to see them change, it's like getting a flower bulb and waiting for a flower to bloom. Everyday is a new surprise and delight. |
Sam is 4 years old and he keeps getting lighter in color. |
2 Attachment(s) Jackson was basically all black & tan when I got him at 9 weeks old with a tiny tiny bit of silver on his face. The silver began to turn white on his face around, oh... maybe 16 weeks old, I want to say. Now his face is basically all gold color along with his legs being gold/tan. And the top of his head is white but the gold/tan is taking over the white, sort of. His body was all black and is now a greyish/silverish color with a tiny bit of black left. He's 6 months old now. It's alot easier to show in pics though.. Jackson at 9 weeks old - First pic Jackson now at 6 moths old - Second pic |
