Why do they do that? Why do dogs go outside, sniff around, and then roll in the dirt? It's soo cute and funny to watch! :D But why do they do it? Sapphire will sniff, then tilt her head, and put it on the ground and slide on her side in a circle! :p |
Pepper only does that after a bath. He is too busy going 90 to nothin with his nose to the ground when he is outside. :D |
It's all fun and games until someone rolls in poop! |
Mine all do it too! Sometimes they roll in all the dead, dry grass! Oliver usually has a ball he rolls around on as well!! I don't know why! |
I'm curious about this too. Hot Rod does it quite a bit. Maggie hasn't started it yet but I think she's going to after watching him. |
Bailey does it all the time! We have open acreage and usually she rolls over grass where something else has peed or died. I can't decide if she's trying to get the odor on her -or- is she trying to put her odor on it???? But I believe its type of marking thing?? Regardless, it results in a bath afterwards! :) |
Its one of many ways to communicate with others , they let their odors on the ground so the next one will know another doggie was there . |
Skootie does it all the time, moreso after he has a bath. He will go around in circles with his behind in the air its soo funny. I have a video of it somewhere I'll have to dig it up and post it. |
Who knows!! And not ONLY dirt... today Jackson & Carmen (my mom's dog) come running in the house with poop all over them. GROSS dogs rolled all in the poop! |
its partly because they are rubbing their scent on whatever it is they are rolling on, and its partly because they are rubbing the scent of whatever they are rolling on on them. when morgan does it i'll sometimes find something, but usually i don't see anything. i figure it's dried pee or some other animal scent. i try not to think about it LOL |
I always ask Winston "Did you find some bird poop to roll in"??? With him that's what it usually is...or a dew worm...yuk...bath time!!! |
My Sapphire has done that before occasionally. I always looked to see what the attraction was and couldn't see much - assumed it was bird poop. It happens too rarely for me to associate anything else to it. That's my girl! |
yorkies have odd personalitys spoiled for real i must say lol... my Bingo lift's his leg ass he poops on a tree and than he scratch's the dirt all over the side walk and street on every tree people look at me like what is going on and when i spray glade in my house he go's on my couch and go's round in circles rubbing his head like i just gave him a bath idk why and he trys to bite the air from the glade spray... odd but alsoo cutee:) |
I've always heard it's because they've found something that's smelly and dead. One day in the park, a bunch of humans were standing around looking at what seemed to be a perfectly innocent patch of grass... but almost every single dog went over and rolled in it at some point. Whatever it was sure must have been gross! I think this is different from when they rub their heads on the floor. That, I think, is to dry their faces off. |
