Yorkies and Rabbits Are Yorkies good with rabbits? I would like to get a rabbit but don't know if my Yorkie would like it or want to hunt it. |
Don't have any experience but I would imagine he would want to hunt it! LOL. I think it's a trainable issue though. |
Mine would love a rabbit....for lunch. |

That is one crazy looking rabbit! He looks FAKE & annoyes the Milu is not posing! Is he one of those lionheads someone was talking about. Aren't there some that get pretty big? |

dusty is a lionhead, but he is small, about 2.3lbs or so. some rabbits can get big, (~12lbs for some) but all my rabbits are pretty small. the biggest one is about 4lbs. |

I thought about Dusty while typing. My dogs will pounce on my cats....no way could I ever introduce a rabbit to them. Not to mention...I've seen what happens when they "meet" a rabbit in the yard. |
There are wild rabbits that visit our yard and Baxter goes nuts when he sees them. I would imagine it would be all about how you introduce them but I would be cautious. |
I guess because most of us think of Bugs Bunny as a rabbit & when we see one that is so exotic...it just doesn't register..... *Note to self...get out in the world more often!!!! |

yea, i agree that not all dogs will LOVE bunnies like milu does. and not all dogs will let bunnies boss them around. :D some dogs do get hungry when they see furry cute bunnies hop around. :p |

My Yorkie is big, 10 pounds. So I am sure he would see a bunny as lunch. |
A funny story is I was walking my Yorkies one day and we saw huge jack rabbits at first my yorkies got a tough and fiesty and all of a sudden they both looked like OMG what the heck is that. The rabbits were HUGE, my yorkies both ran close to me like mommie lets go :D |

Chrissa Bella Bunny (my son named her, lol) is a............ Hmmmm... i'm not quite too she what type she is maybe a regular rabbit? When we bought her they said she was a Holland Lop but now that she is almost 2 she really does not have the Lop features. She is very sweet though and has one ear up and one down. |
In my apartment complex there are bunnies that live on the ground. When I take mimi out she goes crazy if she sees them. She tries to chase them down like prey. She is only 3 pounds and the bunnies are at least twice her size but she still thinks she can eat them. Its pretty funny. |
We have a bunny named Crackers he is 8yrs on Easter. Sweet Pea is 16wks. When we 1st got Sweet Pea we let her snif around Crackers cage. Then the next couple of days we let Crackers out and watched them together. They basically just sniffed each other then went their seperate ways. I guess Crakcers knws he was here 1st and he is "King" of the castle...hahahaha... Now Sweet Pea is in the middle of paper training so she is "penned" up in the dinning room, but she can still "see" Crackers out and about. So far it's going good as far as them getting along. |
You might want to get a rabbit with track shoes, my Yorkie loves to chase bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, butterflies, etc. |
Were Yorkies not breed initially to hunt small vermon? I would think the instinct would still be there at some point. JMO. I was in the pet store with my daughters Thursday looking at some bunny's and was wondering the same thing. As gentle as Rocco is I think his instinct would be to hunt and hurt it. Again, JMO I would still like to have one though, they were so damn cute. |
I'm so glad my hamster died before I got Jackson... I really know he would have tried to kill it! lol |
I don't know how it would be introducing an older dog to a baby rabbit. I have 1 rabbit now and only my oldest cat was around when she came then we got my 2 male cats then our mix dog. my baby Yorkie will be here soon the 2 male cats will go outside and hunt and kill a rabbit (which really bothers me) then come in and sleep with their sister (the rabbit) I think it would be very similar to introducing any other animal to them. |
