How old is full grown? About how old is a yorkie when they stop growing? :) |
I've always heard about 6 months is how big they will be-- but I don't know from experience yet. |
well my baby is 7 months old and hasnt grown in about 2 months so im thinking his 2.8 lbs is as big as he will be... |
Stomper is almost 10 months and his weight is just starting to level out. I guess it all depends, but I remember reading in a book that smaller breeds tend to grow up to 10 months while bigger breeds grow until about 12 months of age. |
Most vets say that the bones are set at about 6 months. My first Yorkie now weighs over 10#. There's no way he was this big at 6 months. He's 16 months now. My puter went down and I had most of my records on it so I don't know for sure how much he weighed but it was most def over 5#. I think like Kimberly said that Yorkies must grow longer than the vets think. Lady was 5 1/2 months and 5# when we got her. So if we go by the bones being set she shouldn't have grown any more. She's 19 months old now and she weighs 6 3/4# now and has since she was a year old. Sylvia |
I am working on my 4th Yorkie and if memory serves, 6 months is about it, though they tend to perhaps ad length to the legs, get body length, and put on some weight. Dennis is my first boy and he grew so very differently than any of my girls. For instance he always had length, (my girls were all little squares, till about 9 months old then they added the caboose..) even at 8 weeks old he was long. He will be 6 months old Sept 30th and it is only the last month that he added height to his legs, and the growth the month before was mainly hair growth and color change. I think Dennis is just about done growing, though I will be interested to see if he does will it be just filling out, or what? |
Bailey hasn't gained any weight since he was abt 8 months,,,, then I switched from puppy to adult food and he actually lost 2 pounds...alot of fat and fillers in puppy food. |
Thanks for all your replies, I am just wondering how much bigger Mia will get in case I order her some new clothes, she is 5 1/2 months old now and almost 3 pounds. She only weighed 1 pound and 7 ounces at 12 weeks. She has already doubled her size. she is still very small, and can wear extra small now, I am thinking maybe I should order a regular small in case she grows more. :) |
Bailey's 8 months old and hasn't gained any weight OR gotten longer/taller in about 3 months now. I'm sure if I were to change his diet he would gain/lose weight but I think he's pretty much done growing... And I've always heard 6 months is about the cut off time for toy breeds |
Gus has not grown any more since he was like 9 months or so. He has filled out since he turned a year. He gained 6 oz's. He is 17 months and is a whopping 2.9lbs LOL |
I have heard that thye usually don't get any bigger (ht and length) after all their adult teeth are in but they still fill out and can gain weight. I think they are babies until 6 months, teenagers until 12 minths and then young adults after that. Middle age at 7 or 8 and old age at 12 or 13 i think. |
It is so strange, even though I had my Shelbie for 14 years, I seem to have forgotton all I knew about yorkies. How can you tell when they have there adult teeth? |
As per the ASPCA Yorkies can grow up until one year or thereabouts. The vets there told me that and I have had a total of three yorkies and I can attest to that. |
Stewie is 11 months and hasn't grown since he was about 7 mos. |
My vet said by 8 months. |
