Non stop humping yorkie - help hi guys.. so i have a 5 month boy yorkie puppy. He when he was a little younger he humped his lil pillow when he saw it. So we took it away. Then within the last months it was his bed so we took it away. Now he does this too a blanket on the floor. The thing is when i see him doing it i say NO and take him away from what ever hes humping. But when i leave he does it too his bed. And when i come home and he greets me he does it the point where the red part comes out of his penis completely. My friends who had yorkie tell me to not let him do it because when comes time for ihm to have puppies he wont do it to the girl but itsead will run to his bed or blanket.(it has happened to on of my friends yorkie). So how do i stop this? I dont want to have him neutrered because we want him to have puppies. any kind of dog collar shock method maybe? .... Hes really sneaky too. Hell hump his blanket and when he remove him and say no hell stop. So now he lays completely on his stomach legs apart and slowly humps the blanky so noone sees. And meanwhiles looks at you as he does this. Hes 5 months ... advice please |
Well, I personally don't believe in only telling a dog "no" when it's reacting to overwhelming and natural hormones. If it was humping a person, I would then say no and redirect to his acceptable "lover dog" :p (or blanket) - but I don't think a flat out "no" is the answer for an unaltered dog, in my opinion. It's like forbidding a dog to ever bark, to my mind - that wouldn't be natural to the dog. Both my boys are neutered, however, they have a stuffed lover dog and that's fine with us :). I think shock collars are cruel - and I wouldn't recommend using one. Has he been evaluated for breeding, btw? That'd be important as well. In any case, his hormones are natural - and if you're not ever going to fix him, then I'd find a method that allows him to deal w/ his urges, without it interfering w/ humans. Good luck! :) |
My advice is to have him neutered. Just bc he can doesn't mean he should be breed. And if you are not happy with his behaviors now....just wait...if you breed him - he WILL be worse :( There are so many Yorkies out there all ready needing homes, don't add to that. Have your baby neutered and just love him for the pet he wants to be ;) |

Most unneutered dogs hump, and I've never heard that it ruins them for breeding. If you are thinking of breeding, I hope you get your dog evaluated, and don't take advice from just anybody who has bred before, but try to really educate yourself on the subject. Male dogs that are used for breeding, don't make as good of a pets as neutered dogs, you will have more problems with a variety of things, humping, marking, aggression, and trying to run away to find a girlfriend. I would never let my dog hump a human, but I think it's ok, if they are humping a toy or blanket. Like you learned, dogs are sneaky, and will just do it when you're not around. If you think your dog is humping more than is normal, you might want to get a vet check. Irritation or itching in the genital area can cause both male and female dogs to hump in response to the physical sensation. Be alert to this possibility, and of course have your veterinarian prescribe treatment to correct any underlying condition. By the way, please forget about shock collars, they are really inhumane. |
He doesnt hump humans... Just either a blanket or his bed. Just i dont like the fact that he does it when noone is around... Maybe ill try taking him to the vet to make sure everything is ok.... What funny is he didnt even have testicles when he started to hump... now i think one of them appeared. Its like a little buble lol ... Guess this could be his testesterone needing release as well? |

:lol tearsThe sneaky humping is cracking me up. Sounds like your dog is not only horny, but smart! |
There are other options besides shock collars. You can use Ultrasonic sound and spray collars. Clinical studies conducted by the College of Veterinary medicine of Cornell University have proven that Spray Dog Training Collars are TWICE as effective as shock collars! Ultrasonic pet trainers are effective for some dogs but not all. They take advantage of your pet's sensitive hearing in the ultrasonic frequency range, beyond the range of human beings. |
I know you want to breed him but, we got Sullie when he was 10 mths old and he was constantly humping his bed and marking everything. We had him fixed at 11 mths and he has yet to hump anything or mark anywhere. I was sooooo relieved:) |
