Pooping in the rain How do you get your babies to poop in the rain? my baby has not pooped all day only because it is raining outside. She will stay outside long enough to potty but not poop which is all of 30 seconds. Because she was spayed wednesday of last week. I don't want to forced her to stay outside because she should not get wet until at least 10 days after her surgery. It's only been 7 days. I take her under the deck and the deck has been providing some cover but the ground is still wet. The only thing I can think of doing is locking her up in the bathroom with potty pads. It's the only way I can get her to used the potty pads is in a confined area. She will not seek out the potty pads on her own. Of course if I do this, I will have a big mess to clean up as no matter how big the bathroom is, she will always step in it. By the way this is everytime it rains. |
Boy that's a tough one. Does she give you signals when she has to go? If yes, then you could run her over to a pad and try to keep her on it, maybe? Or, see if she'll then go outside? I dunno...this is always a tough one... |
My Jewels wont even go out in the rain so I trained her to pads |
She doesn't really give me any signs that she has to go that is why I keep her on a schedule. I don't know what to do because I know she has to go. She usually has a bm around 3:00pm and then again on her last walk. If I keep her on her schedule she has no accidents. I wish she would let me know it would be so much easier but it seems to be working for us so far. |
Are you just sending the dog in the back yard or putting on a leash to go for a walk. Sometimes it takes a little movement to get things going down there, so you might want to get out the umbrella and leash and take the pup for a walk. If given the choice Milo will go to the nearest bush and pee in the rain but unless it is a complete down pour he will walk and poop I think what they mean by not wet is no baths I do not think they mean not to take out for a walk it is like us with stiches we have to keep them dry when we take a shower but we do not have to stay indoors when it rains. If you have a onesie or t shirt that should keep her dry enough for the walk |
As for potty pads, she will used them only if she is in a confined area like if she was locked in the bathroom which is what i do when I am at work. But boy do I come home to a mess sometimes. Forget about the crate because she does the same in her crate. I think because she spent most of her life in a crate, going potty in her crate is not a big deal to her. She won't go and seek them out on her own. I need to find some other solution for this. I would love to give her the run of the house but I may have to accept the possibility that she may never be fully house trained. It's one of the risks of adopting a resuce |
I always walk her with a leash even when we go out back. My yard is not fenced in and I live in a wooded area with all kinds of critters like fox, deer and whatever else is back there in the woods. I never let her go off leash. She is just to darn picky. She won't go even if the grass is to high, she will go on the sidewalk. The grass has to be the perfect height :p. I don't blame her, the grass can sometimes get taller then her and she probably likes to see what's going around her when she doing number 2. |
