Once a month... Coco get's really destructive. I keep her gated in my vanity area. I gave her my room a couple of times and I came home to her all panicky because she had dragged down the end of my phone charger and chewed it up and might have gotten zapped (she was really whiny and panicky/scared so I'm guessing she got zapped). So I keep her gated and like once a month I come home to destruction, like chewing on her crate, carpet, puppy pad. Yesterday I came home and she had lifted the corner of the carpet and chewed the carpet pad ALLLL OVER her area. I don't get it, she's usually really good and doesn't touch anything that's not hers. Why does this happen so sporadically? What can I do to make her be good while I'm gone? She has toys, bed, food/water, and puppy pads there. So this morning I doused the area with bitter apple spray. Any suggestions or does this happen to you? |
how about giving a bullie stick to keep her real busy. i know you may not want to do that if your not there..maybe keep her in the kitchen area where there is no carpet., |
Well all I can say Ramsey has chewed every phone charger I own and everyone I have bought since I've had him. I have tried everything to get him to stop and nothing has helped.. Sorry I'm no help..... |
I went through that fase also with Ruby. Good thing she has forgotten the carpet. |
I know I feel your pain. My dogs have chewed holes in my area rugs and they just got ahold of my dauthers crayons so I have chewed crayons all over. |
AHA! so lil miss Coco has her devilish side!!!! i go with what Lexi_Rae said keep her in a non carpeted area... gl. |
I will try the kitchen. That's a very good idea. I'm just worried because it won't be as warm as having carpeting..What do you think? Do you think it's too late for me to switch her spot? She already so used to her little area. |
if your apt. is heated im sure its not gonna be a prob. i feel you on switching her spot ...hmmmmmm thats gonna be a tuffy but try it out .. see what happs. |
She NEVER eats carpet or chews anything when I am home or even when she's alone. But I don't know why every once in a while she gets in this mood that mom doesn't love. And you can't really get mad because she will have no idea why I'm freaking out. You just gotta suck it up..haha |
Have you watched the times of the month that this is happening? The reason I ask is that when I had a cat, he would get so wound up and crazy and wild during full moons. It was so weird. But I mentioned it to a woman I worked with at the time and she had a cat around Max's age and she said the same thing happened to her cat. We started tracking it and that was what was happening. I notice that now Maddie (my lab) gets wound up and gets into a lot of mischief around full moon. It isn't always that day, but a few days before or a few days after. It is strange. Let me know if you find a pattern with this. Just a thought since you said it was happening once a month. |
this is what i would do, put her gated in the kitchen with her toys and a wee pad if thats how you train her... put her crate or her bed inside the kitchen with blanket and a tee shirt of yours inside so she smells you. or throw an old towel on the floor so she can lay on that.. thats what i do, im gone all day and lexi is in the hallway about 15 feet long with her crate and toys and 1 wee pad and she does just fine...try that, promise it will work.. |
Ok I will try that LexiRae. Thanks! I was thinking about the full moon thing because when we went to the small dog park the day before yesterday all the dogs were fighting and barking which was weird because they all play so nicely together. We were joking around saying that it must be a full moon but I guess it could be true. I will track it next month to see if the same thing happens. |
we had these probs with Gidget and the only thing that keeps the house in once piece is her crate when we are gone..... she went from full reign of the house to the livingroom and kitchen to the kitchen only to now her crate :( |
