This has to be very frustrating when you tried to approach this the right way. But keep in mind, the parents you saw could very well be the parents of this little one. The mixing could have been in generations past. This breeder may feel she has done nothing wrong. But I strongly feel these things happen a lot more when you deal with the ACA, APRI, etc. There are AKC puppymills and unscrupulous breeders too but more and more they are being brought down and then they either go out of business or turn to the easier registries. I never knew any of this before I started getting online and reading about Yorkies either. I think most of us are honest and want to believe everyone else is to.

I wish you luck with your testing and any follow on action that may be necessary!

Yeah, the vets office suggested small claims court. I can't get in before Saturday but they said it should only take a day or so for the results. I figure I'll know Monday or Tuesday.

I just thought of something else the breeder said, that the puppies are usually $1450-1850.00 but because of the economy and the fact the she was using her stud fee in place of the puppy she could sell her for $1,000.00....she made me feel like I was getting a great deal on a great puppy!!!! Even if she's pure I still feel a little robbed and mislead....

FIDebra, thanks but she said she and her aunt don't breed outside of their line so she is aware or she lied. I guess she and her aunt have some kind of breeding program. She also said she is very particular as to where her puppies go....I'm confused because she said all the right things but then I look at my puppy with her tail curled up between her legs and it makes me scratch my head a bit.....Can't wait until the results.......

Exactly. Backyard breeders breed pet quality dogs with unknown backgrounds. It's pot luck what they will produce. They use the "alternative" registries like the ACA who don't require DNA testing or records inspection.

Hopefully you can work something out with this woman without having to go to court. Purebred or not, you paid a lot of money for a puppy who doesn't look like a Yorkie is supposed to look.

Awww, that's so sad. :( I don't think that you should have just walked away....imagine your life without that adorable fur baby! When we bought our first Yorkie (7 years ago), we knew NOTHING about what a "quality" Yorkie was suppose to be. We just knew that we wanted Harley when we saw him!! :) I could not be happier that we were clueless about the breed standards because what if we had walked away?! Oh my, I cannot imagine our family without Harley.

Oh my gosh!!! 22lbs. That is hilarious! He is cute! I love all my animals. Really, it's just I wanted to have a couple of litters and now I can't. I just figured if they're healthy and well taken care of etc etc how could it be wrong....but I see how I feel right now, not knowing what I just bought for $1,000.00 and it's so frustrating that I would never do it!!! She is real smart and sweet. I have a 12 year old neutered pekenese and he's great! It's just I had other plans for these 2 pups and was open about it with the breeder...if she cares like she said she does why would she want me to breed her, unless she will end up being beautiful...oh well, live and learn...

Oh my gosh he is SO cute!!

I have a soft spot for the bigger Yorkies. Jackson is 6 months old and currently 13 pounds!

I feel the same way - I'm GLAD I didn't know as much about standard or any of that at the time I bought him.... I couldn't imagine him any other way.

I paid $600 for a yorkie that ended up being a larger yorkie and $1200 for a female that is 6 lbs. Dont beat yourself up over this I didnt know anything about the standard before I came on here

I paid $1500 for Sadie and $1200 for Ben. I had been on a waiting list for a while before I got Sadie and while waiting got to know the breeder. I decided I wanted to start my own breeding program, with her encouragement, a lot of study and preparation. In fact, she helped me find Ben. They really complimented each other. Unfortunately I lost Sadie after she had this litter of puppies I am now raising. I am very unsure if I still want to pursue breeding. I want to but I just don't know if I could ever put another momma at risk after becoming so attached. I did learn a lesson just as you have -- listen to your heart, follow your instincts, if something feels wrong, it probably is.

I look at it this way -- if we were meant to get into breeding, it will all work out eventually. Maybe this was not the time for either of us.
