Two Questions how many months until a yorkie is considered fully grown? i have a puppy and want to know when he stops growing. also, how soon can he be neutered? thanks. |
I think about a year old is when their full grown, and they should be 6 months to be neutered.:) |
You should research it online about how soon to neuter.....there are pro's and con's to neutering too early! I'm personally going to wait until Tulip is fully mature....that will greatly decrease her chances for bone cancers...and other problems..that can develop if you fix them too young... |
With small breeds, they usually stop growing around 6 mos, may gain another 1/2 pound, but, for the most part they're done at 6 mos. Neutering most places do around 5 to 5 1/2 mos. maybe a tad bit sooner. I would say get him neutred before he starts lifting his leg. I got my male biewer on a Sunday(5 1/2 mos) and he went in for neutering the next day. He's never lifted his leg in the house, uses a pee pad and is a good little guy! |
chester was neutered at 6 months, and usually at around 10 months they quit growing, but chester got bigger after that |
Chuck is getting neutered next week and he's 7 mo old. |
It must be different for each dog. Tucker is 5 and a half months old. My vet said he probably wouldn't grow much more in length and height, but could gain a little more weight. He's a Yorkie. At twelve weeks, he weighed 2.4 lbs. At five months, he weighed 3.7. The vet estimated his weight at 12 weeks, and said he would probably weigh a little under 5 lbs when he was fully grown. I'm beginning to wonder, though. He loves to eat. I feed him Eukanuba mixed with Caesars. At noon, and before going to bed, I give him a little of his homemade treat, "Turkey loaf". It's made with a lb of ground turkey, 1 cup of oatmeal, half cup of parmesan cheese, and one egg. Am I feeding him too much? I don't want him to be a little tubbo, but i enjoy giving him things he likes (within limits). |
