Advise on carpet spot cleaner?
 
So i've been having a problem with my cat urinating on my couch. :mad:

I am looking to buy a carpet spot cleaner that can be used on furniture as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

this things will be put to great use on my old basement apt carpet. Even tho i cleaned every accident that happened i'm sure there are still old stains from morgan having accidents and my old cat vomiting.


edit: just realized i spelled the title wrong. should be advice not advise... :rolleyes:

I've had lots of opportunity to try out different spot cleaners (with an elderly pet and another who is incontinent, clean up is a regular thing around here). Recently, I tried this one from Petco and I've been really happy with the results! Good luck!

Nature's Miracle, will get out all the protein in the urine that causes the smell, if any stain is left over, the aerosol can of Spot Shot called " Instant Carpet Stain Remover" works really well, and both can be used on furniture.

Tried them both! LOL Right now i have nature's miracle orange oxy power for cats.

I should have been more clear in what i am looking for in my first post. I have spray products to clean with. What i am looking for is a cleaning machine like the bissell little green deep cleaner. which machine does the best job?

I have the little green cleaning machine AND a full size Bissel steam cleaner. I prefer my full size cleaner by far! It does a much better job.

I am also a fan of Nature's Miracle. I buy it in a 1-1/2 Gallon jug from petfooddirect.com when I am ordering food. Then I fill a smaller spray bottle. I even use this to pretreat my carpet before I steam clean. It works on just about anything but is especially good at the pee & vomit stains.

I absolutely love my Bissell Spot Bot! I got the one specifically for pets, but I'm not sure what the difference (except the price) is.

Does the full size steam cleaner have attachments to clean upholstery and stairs?

Oh..... yes the full size Bissell then. I have the one that also heats and has a self-propelled feature. It also has an upholstery attachment that works great for the small stains and furniture. I can't imagine not having this with my dogs!

I did not like the Little Green Machine that well. It was fine if it was just an easy spot but they could be cleaned with a damp paper towels. I did not think it worked that well on true stains. I have not tried the one that you just put on the stain and it stays in place, scrubbing a circle. I've heard good and bad about those. But you can't go wrong with the Bissel steam cleaner -- but pay the extra for heat and self-propelled.

this is what i was looking at at first but wanted to see what others have said.

I rented a cleaner from Lowes for the day. I cleaned the entire couch, then I covered the couch with a twin water proof mattress pad and a sheet on top of that. Now *when* Roxy decides to pee on the couch, it remains *safe* ;)

i have washable wee wee pads on the couch right now, plus a firm eye on the cat. i've been taking her to the bathroom with me so she can't pee when i am LOL

I use the Bissell full size, ProHeat steamer, and it works great, also has attachments for doing stairs, upholstery etc. That works great on little spots also. :thumbup:

oh and here is a picture of the offender who is about 1 paw away from being tossed out the door (j/k...maybe... LOL)

yeah she's a pretty cat and she's funny. but the peeing on the furniture thing just doesn't fly in this house. i've tried so many things and no far nothing has worked. she's been to the vet and nothing is physically wrong. so we've been doing behavior mods.

yup. tin foil was the first thing i tried. had it on my bed when she decided that was the first place she wanted to go. she figured out that though its loud it doesn't hurt. so she moves it and chews it and pees around it.

Hey, your kitty is tooo cute to be tossed out!! LOL I love that picture, Morgan looks so cute in it too!!! I hope the behavior modification works!
I see you've already ruled out anything physical, that is good.
I had a good friend whos' kitty was doing this, on the bed and carpets, but she was older and had urinary tract infection.

is it covered with old cat vomit and doggie pee stains too? LOL all the spots have been thoroughly cleaned of course but i would love to see what it looks like underneath if i were to rip it up.

My thoughts exactly!.. I have a thick throw rug by my front door with carpet backing , which Jemma loves to use. I always cleaned up as soon as I saw her. Then one day I picked up the rug. Rather large one. She went a heck of a lot more than I knew looking at all those stains underneath. I put it in the washing machine. Hate to think what my living room carpet looks like.

My dad had a rug under his dining room table and his maltese would go in the same spot! he finally removed the rug and there was a dark brown stain on his hard wood floor! To this day it is still there:eek::eek:. Also on the landing of his stairs she would go there too. I guess it got so bad he had to re-carpet his stairway! Now he has a gate blocking her for the stairs and NO rug under the table!
Isnt it funny how WE have to adapt to our pets! I have the same rug issue as mentioned before. The rug at my front door, when I go to shake it out the whole bottom is polka-dotted:eek:! What the heck!!!! I am lucky that my house has all hard wood floors! But I would LOVE to be able to add rugs! It is so much more cozy!!
I need to buy the Bissell Cleaser! What is the one that everone uses? I know you all like the reg. one not the little green. But which one is it?!!!
