I have a problem, looking for suggestions. Ok, Lacijo is now 7 -7 1/2 inches off the floor to her topline, weighs 3.5# When we bought her the breeder had cut her hair twice. She was 5 1/2 months old. We hadn't had her very long before we noticed how cute she was when she peed. She squated so close to the paper. Now I wonder if there wasn't a reason for the hair cuts. All my dogs are paper trained and don't go outside much and never alone, we have some large birds in our area. Her hair doesn't scrape the floor when she walks but in another 3 or 4 months it very well might. I wanted to grow her hair out, get a professional picture and then get her hair trimmed to a more managable length, since I have 5 Yorkies now and plan on getting 3 possibly 4 more. She has been getting VERY nasty the last month. I should wash her back end at least every 3 days but I don't want to strip out the body oils and ruin her hair. So I let her go for as long as I can. I don't know how she does it but the urine gets almost all the way up on her back. It doesn't quite reach her topline. The situation has changed lately. She has decided she likes me. She was just a daddy's dog, and for some reason the smell didn't bother him. My dogs, most of them sleep on the bed with us. She has taken to sleeping really close to my face. Yuck! When I sit on the couch she gets on the back and tries to sit behind my head. Yuck and yuck again. I thought about tying her hair up on her legs but first of all she'd chew them right out and secondly she is so close to the floor when she pees that it would get into it anyway. Like I said, I want to grow her coat out but I can't take this stinky little girl, any suggestions? Sylvia |
Sounds like quite a pickle...sorry no advice...but my brain is trying to figur eout a solution...what about the pad system that pull the pee away in the pad so as soon as she pees it is being sucked in and it can't get on her coat???..I think it is pricy though...hmmmm!!!! |
I've seen scented/deoderant wipes for dogs, like baby wipes...maybe they would help in between baths? |
I don't know, they'd have to be awfully wet or I'd have to wait for her to dry and then do it. I might try it tho, thanks, Sylvia |
Oh, I had another thought. Do they still make the dry shampoo for dogs or maybe the foam shampoo? That also might help between baths. |
I do have some no rinse shampoo like that but it's the same thing if I use it often won't it strip the oils? Sylvia |
Hmmm...I don't know about that. Can you call the company and ask them? |

upside down every evening and run some tempid water on her pee pee so she is cleaned up down there and has time to dry before bed time. I know what you mean about the odor, one day over 7 and it's bad. There is a product I like and you don't even have to send for it. It's called between bath by Natural Touch. They have one with a baby powder scent that I just love with no dyes and no alcohol. I'll give you the phone # if you can't find it. 1-800-443-4321 It also detangles and conditions so I don't think it would harm her coat in any way. I have used it a long time and see no harm. |
I wonder if baby wipes would help? |
I noticed Sydney is like that. When she pees on the deck and the pee has no where to go she seems to be almost dragging herself through it. I like it when she goes in the lawn and the lawn absorbs it. I use piddlepads in the house and they seem to absorb it before she has a chance to get it all over her. I don't know what kind of pee-pads you use maybe a more absorbant one would work better. Just a thought.. |
Thanks everybody, I don't see any way but to get absorbant pads. Joan, do they carry the Natural Touch at Petsmart? Sydney, sorry don't know your name, that might be worth a try. Rinsing her off every night shouldn't strip the oils any worse than the pee does. Sylvia |
Sylvia, I was reading your signature as a plea to Sylvan to answer your question. My eyes are not good and I'm afraid this computer is really making things worse. I am in Ohio and believe it or not I get it at Drug Mart. I spend a fortune on her Shampoo and Conditioner but this is not expensive and it's a spray. I cut her belly hair back in the summer but I like her to stay warm in the winter so I will let it start growing again soon and then it is more of a job. The phone # I gave you is one I never called but it's on the bottle and I'm sure they can tell you where you can buy it in Missouri. It doesn't hurt there coat and smells so good. There are quite a few threads on pee pee pads. Shield Healthcare has some good ones at a good price and I think there ; it was better to get the larger one and cut them in two. Also e-bay has them at a great price but not always available. I go to the Depends dept in Walgreens and get 40 for 6.99. Rub her urine on them the first few times she uses them and until she gets the hang of it. I remember I took mine outside and when she went pee; I just rubbed a little on at that time and then came in and put it a spot you decide on , in the house. Also the other day someone started a thread saying she could get 200 for 16.99 and I wanted to make a note of it but didn't it was made between 9-6 to 9-9. Wow that is great !! If I find it I will let you know. |
old hairdresser tricks ok i know this works on some smells try taking corn starch and pouring in on her and brush it out !!! if you dont have that put baby powder on and brush this out its a great inbetween bath option piglet gets it all the time also soaks up oily coat if you go waaaaaaaaay too long inbetween baths |

I use the doggy wipes on my puppy. They work very well. |
Sylvia I shave all my girls from their anus to the pee pee and trim around the pee pee keeps them very clean...with 9 too difficult to keep that area longer and clean (with their longer tail hair you cant tell the shaving)...this way everyone is happy |
My little Lacey is like that. I haven't measured her but I think I will. But, when she potties you can't tell half the time because she's so low. I use baby wipes around her mouth and another on her bottom. I figure if you can use them on a baby it wouldn't harm my Lacey. Every morning I brush both yorkies, Lacey will have hair on the ground within a month or two. I just use a baby wipe whenever I smell anything, also brushing often will take some of the roll in the ground stuff off. |
Toto also had that problem .... our vet showed us a little trick. I believe I still have pics I posted ... anyway, band the tail and on either side up near the top of her back. Looks like she has three little "ponytails"! :) I also trim [with scissors only] her little butt and her little "tee tee" area. You can also trim [again with scissors] the long hair inside her legs and on her belly a little shorter. Toto absolutely will not step in her urine and will not pee on a pad but once!! "Miss Prissy Paws" doesn't like to be stinky!! BTW her coat is also floor length. Can't find the pics but will try to find thread where I posted them. I also use the puppy bath wipes or just regular baby wipes when necessary. |
I had forgotten I could use cornstarch or babypowder. I do have her bottom to just in front of her pp clipped and her upper thighs. It is the hair hanging down from the back of her thighs and her tail that gets nasty. I am going to try the absorbent pads and rinsing her off at night early enough so she can dry before bed. Sylvia |
I agree with just hosing her behind off a couple times a day (use the kitchen sink spray nozzle --just warm water/no soap). Spray her off with warm water and pat her dry with a towel.... she'll dry more completely quickly. I have to wash my two dog's feet this way (after they've been outside) if they're muddy. I just hold their feet under the facet for a quick clean. Good luck! |
Had the same problem with my babies, even at 1 year,I used cornstarch then found luvs baby whipes, use them all the time and it has really made a differance, good luck, now when they potty they wait for me to hit them with the whippy and then there off to play again...buy stock in luvs... |
LOL :) ;) :D :p :lol tears  :eyetearss :grin2: :rofl28ib: :yorkiesar |
