What a cute dog....I just wish they would have rescued a dog.... |
the world news reported last night that he was re-homed, he is only 6 months old from what I understand. I thought how sad someone gave up on him already. But of course I don't know what is true or not since new stations report different things |
There is another thread on the subject here. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-decision.html Other than that I'm ashamed to say I'm clueless on the subject. |
I would like to say congratulations to the Obama's on their personal choice of getting their new addition. I'm sure that little guy will be well taken care of and will have lots of love. It's their life and their dog. This was their decision to make, as a family. I say good luck to them! |

he is a portuquese water dog, they dont shed, and they are hypoallergenic.....they are cute..... |
As i stated on the other thread, rescues aren't for everyone. it takes special people to work so diligently with rescues and their work is deeply appreciated by everyone but people should not be put down because someone gets a dog from an ethical breeder. Congratulations to little very happy girls. |
I guess I disagree. I think everyone should consider a rescue, but of course it's not going to be for everyone. However, there's always a huge wave of popularity in dogs the President picks, and Obama could have made a huge difference by getting a rescue. In fact, he SAID he was going to get a rescue. Ordinary people are limited to rescues in their local area and may not qualify under the rescue's rules. The President had a staff vetting potential dogs, and could have gotten one from anywhere in the country. A good rescue should have kept its dogs long enough to make sure they are disease-free and identify any behavioral issues or lack thereof. Not all rescues are traumatized basket cases that require years of work. If the President of the US essentially says it's too hard to find a rescue, what does that say to ordinary citizens? |
Senator Kennedy gave them the dog as a special gift...he has 3 Porties of his own and was sure one would be perfect for the kids. Malia has allergies, and Porties are known to be "hypoallergenic." I think little Bo will make the girls happy. I think every child should have a dog...makes for better grownups later on. ;) Who knows...could help our poor exhausted Prez chill out as well. Neither he nor Michelle have ever had a dog. Can you even imagine that kind of deprivation??? |
Im really happy for the girls. The dog is gorgeous.Anyone know the Breeder, its here in Wise County Tx. Its been all over the radio today..... |
I think the First Family has the right to pick out whatever pet they want to love. I was surprised by their choice, though. Did not seem like the right match for a family that had never had a dog before, two little girls, limited time to devote to their pets, and a home that is really not meant for a large 40-60 pound rambunctious dog. But I imagine they will have someone on staff whose responsibility will be to manage the dog most of the time. Maybe it will be an outside only dog? The breed club says they don't do well in kennels or being left alone for long periods. Says they are strong willed, and in a nicer way hints they tend to roughhouse and be unruly. I don't know why but I pictured the girls with a poodle, mid-size, elegant, girly and not so rowdy as a water dog. My son, DIL & 2 granddaughters have a poodle. Maybe that is why I sort of saw that in my imagination when all the hoopla started about them picking a dog. Just seemed a better pet for a couple of young girls. I didn't imagine Yorkie -- not sure why. But I am sure we will get lots of glimpses of "Bo" over the coming months. Hope it turns out to be a perfect match afterall. |
