Re: Barking Help!!!!! I have a small house with a back yard, but the side street is the one used by the children going to school. Every time I let Calleigh out she barks, and barks every time someone passes by. Has anyone had any luck stopping the barking???? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
Some may disagree with me, but we tried everything, and nothing solved the problem. Then we tried spraying her with a water bottle (and my girl loves the sprinkler, so who'd think this would be a deterrent). Seriously, only had to spray her two or three times. Now, on the rare occasion its needed, I just spray into the air. She quickly loses interest in whatever she's barking at. Trust me, I believe in positive training methods...but exasperation won out. And, this did work. |
Barking for fun or annoyance 1 Attachment(s) Everytime I let the gang out we make a big deal of it. Let's go find the birdies and all four of them wind up barking crazy for about 10 seconds,,,then they loose steam and head down the stairs to do their business. They don't bark much after that unless they are romping and playing and it is for fun. A little water gun will work a spritz in the face will stop them with surprise and they stop barking. |
The coins in a can have been working for us. He will still bark at certain things (people coming in the door etc) but it's gotten MUCH better! Whenever I hear him outside barking at something, I do the same thing... walk outside, shake the can and say "Quiet!" or "That's enough!" and he'll usually let out one more bark and then stop. |
OH I am so glad that other folks use water too!! I was advised to use a squirt gun or spray bottle,(by a professional dog trainer) and have used it with success! But when giving out the advice to other folks, I was worried someone would think I was abusing my baby. I feel vindicated not only because it works, but because others use this method too! Yes, I would advise you to use a hose, (if you can fix it with a variable nozzle to make it spray a further distance) and when your baby is too noisy, say loudly "HUSH" and spray the distance ;) as soon as baby 'Hushes', then stop spraying and say" GOOD boy or girl " :) Takes a few times, but be persistent :) It will work. I would just do it for nuisance barking, you want them to bark at adult strangers ;) Mine would bark when the grill was out of place :( |
