Since getting Sophie...I've learned so much about Yorkies... Sizes (tea cup , tea pot, ;) coffee jug :D ), coat types....(silky , cotton , mix of both),blond yorkies, tan/black, gold/blue :) ................. but...I'm confused on the Briewer yorkies... Where did they originate from? Does AKC recognize them? They seem very expensive and rare~ They are cute...I've only seen them in picures... :) Just wanting to know a bit more I guess... ;) anyone?? |

Here is a link which also explains the history.http://eastlandkennels.com/history_o...wer_yorkie.htm In the not too distant past "off color" pups who were born would be killed becuase they were outsdie the show breed standard and the show breeders did not want to keep those colors in the gene pool. A breeder in Germany with a more open mind thought these tri-colored puppies were beautiful and made a decision to go against the show breeders and breed FOR the off colors. He started the Biewer Club in Germany and the standard he developed does not allow for docked tails so the tails stay long. The colors come from the fact that the yorkshire terrer was oriniginally developed in the 1800s by cross breeding several different terriers of different colors. So those who are prejudiced against mixed or cross bred dogs today would do well to remember this. |

... i have a question i always have a touch of white on at least one puppie but one of the crosses i do produced lots of white belly toes chest chin .. .is this a sign of Biewer gene ? im slightly confused on Biewer even after doing minimal reaserch. Mama Yorkie, let me see if I can answer this question for you. Many yorkies are born with a patch of white on their chests and out grow that white in their adult coats. After speaking with a wonderful friend quite a bit about this, she has bred yorkies for 40+ years. When this happens the white patch indicates a silky coat. From what my research has taught me that a piebald gene carrier will have is speckling on their bodies or in their mouths, pads of the feet, white toe nails along with the white in their coats that they don't out grow.... With this I do believe this is how they developed the parti-yorkies as well, but Rini (whispersmom2) could explain those beautiful dogs better than I... The only difference I believe in this is that the parties haven't had a standard set for them as the Biewers have and that they are from different lines. If I can help you further let me know. There are several of us here that have the pie bald carriers, Biewers, and I also have a 3/4 Biewer and 1/4 Yorkie- she is registered as a Yorkie, but when she is breed with a Biewer Male, I will get a mixed litter and or all Biewers. This will open another whole topic.... :p |
When AKC decides whether or not to reg a dog, in this case we are discussing parti Yorkies, they have several people look at the pics and the paper work from the puppy, its ancestors and then decide about the registration. Remi has black and tan so those are his colors. Opposite the color boxes are ones to list markings. That is where the parti is indicated. When I sent Remi's paperwork to AKC, I sent 4 pics, a letter of explanation and the application. I make sure I have COPIES of everything. I sat back and waited and about 4-6 weeks went by and I received his reg papers. I had a friend do a pedigree on him and add his pic to the pedigree. It is great because not only is his pic on there but names and info about his ancestors' breeders. |
Thank You Thanks everyone...I love this Thread ;) .... Its helping me understand a good bit more about the Brewier Yorkie. :) I have heard them mentioned off and on...and just really wanted to understand more about them- :) |

I LOVE the classic black and tan coloring of the Yorkshire Terrier! (Which explains why most breeders try to maintain this coloring within the breed) Of course...the coloring on the Biewers is so pretty! Just wondering though, if you try to breed this coloring, are you also altering other genetics within the Yorkshire breed...i.e. ears..body shape...shrug...just wondering...anybody know? Is the Biewer a separate breed? Francie :animal36 Just wondering... |
Francie Just wondering though, if you try to breed this coloring, are you also altering other genetics within the Yorkshire breed...i.e. ears..body shape...shrug...just wondering...anybody know? Is the Biewer a separate breed? When ever you breed whether a Biewer or a yorkie to try to get good confirmation with another mate you are always be bringing in different genetics- unless you are line breeding. I hope I am understanding this question. Second part of this question is yes in Germany they are considered a breed of their own, as they are registered as Biewer Yorkshires, with their registeries. |
