Got a Question Leo is 8 weeks old ... his belly bands came in today .... HE Hates IT! Crys the whole time it is on him ... should I stick with it or forget about using them? :yorkiesar |
What are you trying to use them for? |
yeah what are you using them for? |
I understood it would help with housebreaking .... am I wrong? If so into the trash they go |
Not sure what you are using them for? I never had to use belly bands on Nolee. But I was home and able to housetrain him with no problems. I am no professional with belly bands, but I think it is for marking??? I may be wrong, and do apologize, but hopefully someone here can help?? |
It is my understanding that belly bands are used for marking dogs not house breaking. Your puppy is very young, where you planning anything else other than the bands like a crate training or pee pad training? |
Thanks so much for the quick answers ... I'll ask on the forums before I try anything a neighbor tells me again ... into the trash they go ... I couldn't figure out how to do it anyway ... poor little Leo has to put up with a dingy Momma :( |
I think they are used for marking, not house breaking. Im not sure though. I wouldnt be able to hear him whine like that, Im a softy! haha. |
I bought Jackson a belly band just to help me feel more secure when bringing him to others houses, etc. But he refuses to wear it and will find a way to take it off, LOL. But he's fairly trustworthy now at 6 months. Not 100% though. |
I would keep it just incase when he gets older and starts marking.. then you at least have it. teddy doesn't mark our house but other peoples so they are handy. |
It actually helped us with housebreaking Tucker. They're really used so that the dogs don't mark around the house, but Tucker wore his as a puppy. He actually wouldn't pee when he had them on, so we were able to take him out in 20 minute intervals and he would only go outside. Now he is 100% house broken! :) I think that if you decide to keep them, you should give him some time to get used to them. They're different, so of course he'll cry when he first gets them on. If, after wearing them for a while, he still gets upset when you put them on, I'd abandon the idea. Best of luck! |
I have them made 3 inches wide. Most of the people on e-bay make them 4 ins. wide. Baron is 7 lbs. I use them @ night so his crate stays dry. During the day whe I'm @ home, If he forgets to run to the door between my taking him out every 2 hours.I also wear them on my 15 pound Tea-Pot Papillion Sammy, tho fixed will still mark. I also use them as Belly Bands when we go to people's home to protect their homes. Baron is 16 months old and a Marking Fool!! Even my neutered Papillion marks and he's been neutered for 7 years. I use them for housebreaking ang house protecting @ home and when we go for visits. Males are soo much fun. Fixed or not. Yorkies are a trip to housebreak. I hope I live long enough to see him housebroken...LOL We'll have him 1 year in May!! I bought the thickly sewn one's that are $5-7 a piece and have them made 3 inches wide. Any wider and Baron and Sammy can wear them as a jacket...LOL I then put a poise pad or a maxi pad with wings on the outside. Either works great. Good-Luck...:goodluck::xfingers: |
That's why I bought them ... my neighbor told me she trained her Chi that way. I didn't leave it on him long enough to know if he would pee in it. It just sounded like the most gentle way to teach him. |
Yes, I used to go to a group on Yahoo where one of the members made and sold the belly bands for males. They are for keeping pee on the pads when a male tries to mark. Also they are for older incontinent males. If you can use them for house training all the better. Yes, don't toss them out, you may always have a use for them and the dog later. |
I used them on Ben when he was a puppy. The idea is that they will not like the wet near them so they will stop wetting when they are on. Then you take them off and take them outside to their designated pee spot. Put them back on when they come inside. Ben did not like his either. He tried to rub it off for the first day but after that he resigned himself to it. I wound up not using them all that much. But they were nice if we went somewhere to visit, just in case. Now that he has started to mark, I have ordered more of them. So, we will try the other use now that he has started this behavior. :( |
